Wondering where top law firms tend to recruit? For the first time, U.S. News presents a ranking of law schools based on the opinions of the people doing the hiring at the nation's most highly regarded law firms. In 2010 U.S. News and the publication Best Lawyers teamed up to rate the country's law firms. To produce this list, we asked 750 recruiters and hiring partners at those highly rated firms from the 2010 Best Lawyers ranking of law firms for their input.
The ranking is based solely on the results of a fall 2010 reputation (based on tehsurvey asking those recruiters and hiring partners from the top firms to rate the academic quality of each law school on a 5-point scale: outstanding (5), strong (4), good (3), adequate (2), or marginal (1). Anyone unfamiliar with a school was asked to select "don't know." The response rate was 14 percent. This ranking of law schools by law firms was first published in 2011 and has not been updated.
Scores for each school were totaled and divided by the number of respondents who rated that school; the resulting average scores were sorted in descending order. Those schools with the highest scores appear here.
To be included, a law school had to be fully accredited by the American Bar Association and have received a minimum number of responses. Only schools that have reputation scores of greater than or equal to 2.0 are listed.
