Eric Butts, a 2010 MBA from Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management who is a consultant at Accenture in Philadelphia, echoes Swick's optimism.
"The people that they have teaching in the classroom may not necessarily be involved in the administration side. Maybe they should be," he says of Yale's multimillion dollar loss. "You have all these experts in their respective fields. You may want to leverage that for your own operations."
But applicants shouldn't dismiss Yale on a single data point, he says, noting that the school's brand remains very powerful.
"If you have Yale on your résumé, it goes a long way," he says.
