Although traditional cases are "archived moments in history," which call upon students to "transport yourself back to the '80s and imagine what decision you would have made and why," there is value to studying both current and former business challenges and scenarios, Guerra says.
"What the executive has to say about what's happening today at their company is 10 times more relevant than what we're going to learn in a case from the '80s," he says. "But if we don't read that case from the '80s, then we're not able to have a discourse [using a shared vocabulary] with the executive."
