Business Schools Increasingly Require Students to Study Ethics

Thanks for your comment, Fred, and you are quite right that Prof. Fogel still teaches A Guide to Business Ethics.

The Booth communications office has confirmed, though, that the class, rather than being devoted to teaching business ethics, is "a historical course which looks at the issue of ethics and its effect on long business, religious, and political cycles."

Chicago Booth's Ethics class with Nobel Awardee Rober Fogel is no longer?

There has been a decline in ethical behavior in society over a number of years as indicated by business fraud, Medicare fraud, increased violence, bullying, political shenanigans, and that's just for starters. There is no reason to trust anyone in government and business as headed by banks and financial institutions are a close second. I teach an ethics class and realize what I am doing probably will make no difference because unethical behavior is endemic in our society. It is the main reason our economy will not recover any time soon, and the declining work ethic has led to a lazy, entitlement society. So, why teach ethics? The only reason to do so is because those of us who do still hold out some hope we can make a difference. However, it is increasingly unlikely American society will change anytime soon and, therefore, we will continue to be in economic decline.
