When I applied to college, one of the admissions representatives @ LeMoyne College said the best question to ask yourself is "Can I see myself here for 4 years?" and while I loved LeMoyne, the answer was no. While I probably saw more of the student life at LeMoyne, I knew it wasn't for me. It was HOURS away from any family member, and had I gone home for Thanksgiving I probably would not have returned.

Fordham University had the appeal of being a beautiful campus a stone's throw from Manhattan, with easy access to family in CT and NJ.

As a college consultant, I think these are great suggestions for students and their families when they are making college visits. I usually suggest one more to my students.

Sometime toward the end of the visit, stand in the middle of the campus, look around and think about whether you could see yourself as a student there? Would you be happy to spend four years at this school? The answers are often is quite revealing.
