When choosing a college, make sure to ask yourself, "Can I imagine myself here?" In other words, "Do I belong?" No matter how prestigious the school, it has to feel like home. When writing your application essays, be authentic: If you try too hard to impress your readers, you will annoy them. If you aim to connect with them by speaking from the heart, you will be unforgettable. For more ideas, please visit www.thehonesteditor.com.

As a private college counselor, I think these are great suggestions for helping students choose a college. It is a big decision and you want to get it right the first time. I usually suggest students weigh up the pros and cons of the schools to which they have been accepted and see how each college stacks up. They should consider the academic, social, and financial fit as well.

Great ideas here. I also wrote about this last week on my blog. (Link below if interested.) I'd also suggest that kids move past hoping to hear from wait list schools, and then if they do hear later on, then they can make a new decision--one that might even include turning the tables and saying NO to the college.

I am a graduate of Augusta State University. The Hull College of Business is ranked in the top 100 nationally.

I advise students to be wary of online Universities. There are a few of them that have achieved regional accreditation. However, that is not indicative that their degree programs are individually accredited. For example, I was looking to avoid taking the GRE. So I applied at an accredited-online university. I did my research before I signed the MPA for the loan. I am grateful that I did. The Masters Degree Program was not accredited by certain governing bodies that make the degree I chose to pursue more viable. My advice to probable graduate students is to do the research that is necessary--One does not want to end up spending thousands of dollars just to receive a worthless piece of paper, in most cases. I just took the GRE and I am now able to pursue a highly ranked program that fits my needs. Good luck to you all!
