While an alternative break might not be the thing to add to a resume, I think it can definitely help you to be more successful in school or your career. You might not get into Harvard Business School because of it, but I would guess that it would make you a much more compassionate and ethical business person.
On an alternative break, you will get to experience life from someone else's perspective, gain a better sense of the world, learn the importance of relationships, and recognize that we all have a duty to make the world a better place. If that isn't enough of a benefit, I don't know what is. I have been on six alternative breaks trips to date, and I am the person I am today because of them.

I am a college student and alternative breaker in MI! This year I will be going on my 4th alternative spring break. I always say that ASB is the best thing I have done in college because it taught me that one person truly can make a difference. Last year I learned how to use power tools while re-building a floor in someone's home...but more importantly I got to spend a week with that family making the personal connections that related the issues they faced to the issues I experienced back home. AB'ers around the world are creating a network of love and understanding that allows all of us to connect as human beings trying to create a more just world. I am not relying on my AB experience to help get me a job, but I am using it to gain a better understanding of the world around me and the issues we face.
