Hi Rhonda! i completely understand your concerns. We got some paid help for my son. Counselors from his school were not very helpful. We received application counseling from http://www.advantagetesting.com/additional-services/application-counseling. It was a paid service that helped my son get into school.

I have a soon to be Junior and my head is swimming with all that needs to be done before college and I don't know where to start. There's not alot of help with counselors in high school no matter how many times you visit their office. He plans to attend a state college but like most people we are no longer financially prepared. I know there's grants and financial aid but there's also other things that he needs to do to get those perks. Any suggestions?

Thanks for putting this into words. My son is a high school junior and is dead set on attending Sewanne.

Being a high school senior and a soon to be applicant to a list of universities stuck on my study board, all I have to say is that your article comes as somewhat of a relief.
:)
I will continue my college search under a new light now.
:)thank you

Yes, I remember how I wept for about half an hour when I received that letter (email was not available then) that told me I was rejected from Georgetown University. I had dreamed of going to Georgetown ever since "St. Elmo's Fire" and became an avid basketball fan. I was on the waiting list but had to interview with someone like you (who obviously didn't get me in :)). There was no way I was going to Duke after that. So I "settled" for UC Berkeley. Not only do I cherish that experience and the moments but also the friends that are the ones that last a lifetime.

As an educational consultant and college planner, I think you have done a great job of putting college into perspective. I agree with you completely that it isn't the school, but the experiences you have that will really make a difference in your future.
