While transitioning into these careers will most likely require re-education and training, there are openings for which an employee's current skill set from a previous job may apply. "Moving into a growth field doesn't necessarily mean changing your functional responsibility and changing your profession," Pollak says. In the healthcare field, for example, Pollak says there are many administrative, marketing, and business-related positions that may not require additional training.

The education job market is dead in my area (Florida)--tons of layoffs, cuts in salaries and benefits and more demands. Maybe other areas of the country are better.

I completely agree with Rebecca. Higher educational qualifications are oftentimes a prerequisite to increased earning potential (due to your increased market value as a professional), a wider range of opportunities, and a much more rewarding career. However, finances can sometimes be a barrier to further studies. Fortunately, there are more and more options are opening up in the area of online education, making it possible for individuals who are living under difficult circumstances to pursue further education. Websites like http://www.psychology-school-online.com provide online opportunities for students to find a learning program that will enable them to obtain a degree in their chosen industry, such as a degree in nursing, a masters degree in psychology, or further graduate studies.
