I can't agree with the author more.

The almuni network is not only a console when you're down. It's definitely the last straw when you're in great quandery.

I am a recent Tuck alum (2009) and I have been both humbled and amazed by the amazing alumni network. Tuck alums continue to impress with me with their incredible responsiveness and general willingness to help. That being said, a strong alumni network should not be viewed as a magical salve; at the end of the day, actual jobs have to exist in order for anyone to get hired. I have been pounding the pavement since June of 2009 and I have yet to land a full time offer. Tuck alums have gone above and beyond to assist me, and when I finally secure a job, I have no doubt it will be through a Tuck connection. Still, I think that the recruiting environment needs to be recognized for what it is: extremely challenging even with the support of such a powerful network.
