"Anonymous Student" - Our country was not founded to, and does not exist to, reward those who work hard. It was founded so that those who strive and work hard have the opportunity succeed.

"Providing" college education as a social service will simply drive taxes thru the roof more than they are already! Who do you propose would pay for this boon-doggle?!

The American higher education system is out of touch with the needs of the American public. As a current college student from a working class family at a private university I certainly know how burdensome the costs of education are. Isn't our country about rewarding those who work hard and strive to succeed? This is challenging enough, but tack on the strains of trying to make ends meet to pay for school and you have a recipe for an arduous crucible that many fail solely out of financial reasons. This should not be the case. All Americans should care about higher education and the fruits it provides to society. Without many of the brilliant minds, whom more often than not are products of higher education, the world would not be the same. Our country needs as many well educated people as can be mustered. Education is the foundation of a brighter future. Without education people are lead like sheep to the slaughterhouse, used up by large profit hungry corporations. Provide higher education as a social service to those worthy and watch us flourish.

is mentioned too many times in this article, as though it is one of the reasons to be going to college. Internet? Yes, I get that as having value. Cable? Come on.
