Education has never been cheap, and States that treat it as such have suffering educational outcomes. Just because personnel costs are 80+% of educational expenses, doesn't mean that it's reasonable to make cuts there. Cuts from personnel ultimately impact capacity of the system and limit outcomes.
Public education exists because it is in the public benefit to have an educated citizenry, with benefits ranging from economic to social. Recent trends in the US are to provide less for public education and shift costs for higher education to students. This action demonstrates that education is less of a priority to the public. Examine societies where cost of education falls solely on the student/family and ask yourself if we want to more closely resemble them.

our daughter is sharing a three bedroom apt on campus.there are two full baths a utility kitchen common living area and dining combo; plus a small patio.shopping at the local grocery stor and cooking @ the apt saves alot of money.shopping at local discount stores for supplies is also a plus.foregoing the car and using a bicycle is good for the environment as well as a healthier choice to stay fit.taking advantage of the oncampus health club and laundry room has helped as well.these are patterns one should learn from an early age; but its never too late to start.
