In case anyone is wondering, it was a national survey of 11,000 college-bound high school seniors who indicated that they will be double depositing.

I sat in on a high school's scholarship committee meeting this morning and was surprised to see how well some mid-range to upper mid-range private colleges had funded some of the applicants we were reviewing. Knowing recent funding history from several of the colleges whose award letters were in front of me, there was no question that the amount of institutional grant aid had been increased from what had been commonly offered to comparable applicants by these colleges in recent years. It looks like an attempt to hedge against summer wait-list melt. Several of these packages would be difficult to reject if the students are eventually offered acceptances off wait liste in May or June, especially if little or no aid is provided.
