As a proud alum who has bled orange since my freshman year 20 years ago, I never heard of the SU fact that is listed here... where did the author get this information? Why not include something more positive like SU was the first university in the country to confer a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree soon after the school's founding...

You would think that a school from Oklahoma would know the history of the state.

From Wikipedia: The term Sooners was used to describe settlers who entered the Unassigned Lands, located in the current state of Oklahoma, before President Grover Cleveland officially proclaimed them open to settlement with the Indian Appropriations Act of 1889 on March 2, 1889. The name derived from the "sooner clause" of the Indian Appropriation Act, which stated that no one should be allowed to enter and occupy the land prior to the opening time and that such people would be denied rights to illegally claimed land.

So sooner actually means Land Thief.

Nice way to try and spin it sooners. No matter how you try and cover it up your nickname means someone who cheated to get land. Kind of an appropriate nickname for the school with the most NCAA major recruiting infractions.

Every year around this time I am amazed how much publicity this tournament receives. If people put as much effort into rebuilding our education system as they put into college sports we would have a much better educated populace.

I am not against sports in college. I think every college should have a strong intramural sports program where EVERYONE can participate if they want.

There is a reason why colleges and universities are referred to as "Educational Institutions".
