Wow, Americans need to toughen up, the application to universities are a lot more difficult and a lot harsher.

When I was accepted at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2006 the front of the envelope simply said "WisconsIN" and the back flap said "Yes!"

I thought a very classy, yet amazing way to celebrate one of the happiest days of my life!

On the flip side, 4 years later when UW rejected me for graduate school... I checked my application status online and all it said was "Denied." No warning or email that a decision was even made! Still love Bucky regardless.

I know what this article means when it talks about how rejection emails are today. I received a master's from a campus of U of Illinois and applied to the main campus for a PHD program and got one of these emails. Although many have talked about the differences between campuses at some universities my tuition did in fact go to pay the U of Illinois' administrative costs and executive salaries just like the flagship campuses did. This email was a real slap in the face and regret applying.

I applied during the priority filing period (which ended November 1) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and I would find out their decision on Friday December 17 at 5:00 pm. I had to wait for half an hour to even get onto the log in screen, and when I finally got in to check my status, I saw "Admission Decision: Denied," and I was absolutely devistated. I was so nervous that day, that I couldn't eat a single bite, and after I saw that I was denied, I couldn't eat anything for a week and a half and I couldn't stop crying. I instantly started crying at 5:30 pm, fell asleep crying, woke up crying, and spent the rest of my weekend crying. Then, I had to take my finals on the 20 - 22, and not eating doesn't help your grades. It's almost been one month since I got their decision and I have no clue why I was not waitlisted or accepted, I have not recieved a single letter from them, and I'm still devistated. If I see anything with their colors, logo, or name, I burst out crying because I don't know what I did wrong. I wrote two great essays for them for nothing.

The University announced it that i was rejected but not only me but most Students who applied and completed all the requirements. he letter didn't say why i was rejected but it said there that they are accepting very few students at the moment. I am so sure that this is not a lie from the University because we applied and we meant that we are interested. I just hope the University will do is tell the applicants why they were rejected. It will be easier to let us know why not just you are denied. It's heart breaking. I hope most students will read this.

Top schools all accepting the same students, those who have done volunteer work in Africa, or other country.
