Need help. My daughter attended The Art Institute of Inland Empire. She got some grants, etc and they signed her up for a Sallie Mae. Then she needed a way to and from so they said move into housing it'll all be included in your loan! She did. Kept the same classes for the quarter. They charged her $800up a month for a four bdrm dorm shared by 8 students! That with the classes put her over her limit and the job she has part time wasn't giving her enough hours to make the payments. They said as long as you're making an effort you're good. She made what payments she could and still eat. They defaulted the loan and expelled hersaying she could only fix this with the full payment of $18000 which she could only cover with another Sallie Mae which she was denied for and being unemployed,I can't cosign for. HELP!

Need help to start paying back my student loan

Westwood College in Denver Colorado made us do a 'Parent Loan' even when myself the parent was on Colorado Housing due to low income. This loan was forbeared, then at the loss of my daughter in 2003, this student loan was discharged. Only to come back and charge me including interest.
Unfortunately with the economy I make less per year now, then I did in 2008, and they are wanting me to start paying, even after claiming bankruptsey to keep my home, and to keep a roof over my grandson's head. Ridiculous!!!! No options for parents, and obviously no ethics for student loans.

We the sheeple, are financial prisoners to our government, we voted to allow all of these things to occur. I graduated with a bach degree after 4 years and a grad degree 2 years later. I did manage to find a good job, neither of my degrees got me anywhere. I took certification tests and used social networking to get me in the door. I wish I could trade back the degree for the $82K it cost me to get it...

Just landed my first teaching job right out of college. My pay is ok, without my student loan payments I was able to save up enough to buy a new car (not literally new but 2004 model for 4,000 in about 3 months). Everything was great until my grace period ended on my loans. I was paying 657 dollars a month to lendors for my student loans. There is no way in hell I, my wife and our son can survive with that payment looming over our heads. I managed to gain forbearance on my my loans through Income Based Repayment, this helped out a lot. Since I'm a science teacher I have a couple of dim options. I could apply for federal loan forgiveness because of my content area, pay the IBR for 10 years and have it wiped out, now I read this and theres hidden "catches" I don't know about? Why do federal institutions have to make everything so damn hard? Can't we go to school get an education and live happily ever after just like I was made to believe coming up through gradeschool. The truth is I am going to be in debt for awhile and because loans and borrowing agencies are able to skew the truth I'm not even sure when I'll be out of debt. Is it fair for public service employees to not be able to afford a decent car, flatscreen tv, or smartphone? I have a friend who skated through high school to the easy way out of everything he possibly could and still doubles my salary today. I understood the fact that I would make less money going into the field and the tradeoff I suppose is the love for what I do, but I feel like enduring the challenging task of graduating and gaining a meaningful degree might allow me to live with less stress, not paycheck to paycheck scraping... This needs to be fixed, needs to be evened out, It doesn't take that damn much money for a college to provide me with an ass load of work and a degree to place on top of it!

Hey - I'm an educator - teach science & math. I like to say I'm the highest educated but least paid in my family. I give and give and give to our youth, provide opportunities for them and go above and beyond what my hours and job description call for. I do not own a car, have no credit card debt, have raised to beautiful children, one in grad school and one at an out of state university. I'm so far in dept helping my kids through their education (yes, they have also assumed some of the dept) and paying of my own graduate degree (from 16 years ago) that I can not afford a car, I bike to work, and find it difficult to make ends meet each month. I feel every one of your pains. I do not know where or when relief will come but the system is definitely and severely broken.
