The House's Contempt Vote Does Nothing to Address the Real Arms Problem in Mexico

The House should be focusing on stopping illegal arms sales in Mexico, not Eric Holder

Back to argument

The illegal arms come from poverty stricken nations whom OUR GOVERNMENT has supplied with free arms! Just like how Al-Qaeda got armed, just like how numerous Central and South American revolutions were armed. Those guns don't just disappear after a conflict, they are sold and traded to the highest bidder. There are still surplus guns in circulation from World War ONE.

The entire argument that unscrupulous American private gun dealers are responsible for all of the arms in Mexico is total hogwash. The government gives hundreds of millions of dollars in small arms to every seedy movement and puppet government in the world.

Wake up, gun control isn't about safety, it's about.... well, CONTROL.

This vote was about the Attorney General working to stop voter suppression and all these congressmen who are owned by the NRA. SHAME!!

Personally, I am NOT a fan of today's Republican Party shenanigans against Democrats and the President... when these shenanigans are clearly politically motivated and NOT for the good of the country.

But as a Libertarian leaning Independent, I am appalled by the lack of transparency in the Obama Administration. If the Congress wants to see some documents, they should see them!

After all, Congress directly represents the people, right? Remember: "We the People"?.

Now, I understand taking certain precautions (e.g. only allowing the certain Congressional Leadership to see the documents or other such reasonable limitations), but we need to err on the side of Transparency, because the American Presidency is NOT an Imperial Presidency. "We the People" have every right to look into ALL branches of Government.

I fear that the recent great secular trend of our Government is to be less "of the people, by the people, and for the people"...

"Sadly, we know how this will all end, because we have seen it before. The GOP majority will now go to court to obtain the documents, settle after months or years of costly litigation, and receive exactly the same documents Attorney General Holder has already offered to provide."

Uh...hardly.

There are some 80 THOUSAND documents that are relevant to this issue. Holder has turned over less than ten thousand. By this time next year most of the rest will have been forcibly turned over to Issa and HOlder will be very lucky to not be up on criminal conspiracy charges not to mention being turned over to Mexico for prosecution there as well.

Adam, as far as Im concerned youre as big a traitor to the United States of America as Eric Holder is.

The MEXICANS are NOT pleased with their SOVEREIGN NATION being violated by Holders ATF who ILLEGALLY sent guns into their country and into the hands of VIOLENT criminals.

I find it particularly disgusting that your sort wants to attack the CRIME but because the CRIMINAL who committed it is wearing the same animal on his button as yourself, you want to give him a 'get out of jail free' card.

People like you are a disgrace to this country and you should never be allowed in ANY position of authority.

William David Tipton of OH 5:49PM July 04, 2012

@Adam Schiff

If you think congress abused their power to lawfully find Holder in contempt for not producing the documents he was instructed to provide, then you are a true Liberal. If you can't win the argument you just change the true meaning of it until it morphs into something you can debate. Democrats in congress have abused their power since Obama got elected, and continue to do so with under the table and back room votes to squeeze issues past the American people.........That my friend is true Abuse of Power.

Lawfully issuing a subpoena to get the facts in a case that has affected so many or should I say "infected" so many, is call Due Process..........something Eric Holder knows all too well and how it works, yet rarely adheres to unless it suits his needs. It's time to man up to your crimes Eric Holder because you are not above the law and neither is Obama contrary to Liberal beliefs!

Time to oust those from our government who have done nothing but seek to destroy this country from within since taking office and Eric Holder along with Obama fit that description.

Nicely done. You read from your party's talking points very well. Since you read so well and clearly have you ever considered a career as a TV news anchor?

This is totally a partisan action by House Republicans. The level of irritation that will be felt by the public, when they find out that the Holder Justice Department is in fact upholding the Law, will be tremendous.Since when does the congress get to insist that anybody break the law, or endanger the identity's of covert operatives. The immature and selfish behavior by congressional Republicans, is most certainly a fight that they need to have, since their records on real issues (like job creation) are terribly insufficient. ISSA, get your priorities straight- I believe your supposed to be representing the American people not Mitt Romney's deceptive campaign.
