Welfare Assistance Is Not Parental Oversight

Welfare recipients are no more likely to have drug problems than anyone else

First off...yes they are.

Secondly, had to give you the down arrow. You drug test them all.

If you're not doing drugs there is nothing to worry about.

I get drug tested for the right to work and earn my money. Those getting my money for free should at the very least be drug tested.

I can't believe people continue to put their head in the sand on this issue.

Oh yeah...if you're on welfare, you shouldn't have a dog in this fight. You shouldn't be allowed to vote on it or even comment.

Why not? I have to take a drug test to obtain employment. Why shouldn't they be required to show that they are drug free and worthy of MY tax dollars?

Anyone here arguing that it is unfair is out of touch!

So what? If you don't want to be drug tested, don't take the money. It seems to be a simple concept. Subsidize any behavior and you will get more of it.

Wow a liberal college professor...what a shock!!!

The question was NOT whether welfare recipients are more likely to have drug problems, but rather SHOULD THEY BE DRUG TESTED.

Many people have to have drug tests to work for the government (and many private sector companies). So how can you justify people that are being supported BY THE AMERICAN PEOPLE via the government NOT be required to do the same?

You appear to be one of those that is educated beyond your intelligence.

While it is true, as Mr. Bodie states, that welfare recipients are not necessarily more likely to be on drugs than the rest of the population, that is not the issue at debate here. Whether the rest of the population does or does not do drugs is irrelevant. The rest of America's drug use is not subsidized by tax-payers, but by their own stupidity for spending their earned money to support their drug use.

THAT is the difference.

In reference to quote: "TANF drug testing will only deprive needy families of money."--Matthew Bodie

How is this ANY different from a Rejected drug-using JOB APPLICANT whose family is deprived when there is no income?

(I do not condone drug abuse).
