Say No to Drug Testing the Unemployed

Drug testing perpetuates myths and scapegoats the unemployed

Back to argument

Just another right wing war against regular people. Can they be any more obvious who they really care about (themselves and their campaign contributors?).

First of all with the loss of more and more freedoms and the high price of absolutely everything. The last thing states need concern themselves with is spending more money implementing programs that won't return the value of the money spent on catching the so called lazy unemployed. Besides the fact that since they know about the testing and having products out there to help you cheat the test the success rate of implementing such programs even lower. We as a nation need to focus of larger problems than insistently tip toeing around breaking down the freedoms that make this country great. I say if you even should have the notion that the unemployment benefits are being abused let's make sure that current available employment verses the unemployed isn't 4 to 1. If the jobs out weight the unemployed then yes by all means let's get concerned. But with the way things are these days what do we hope to gain from the profiling those that are in need of assistantce. It reminds me of the talk I had with my daughter just the other night, where she was reluctant to get help from a after school program in fear she would be looked opon poorly and called names for seeking needed assistance with her school work. Some will argue it's not the same. However big or small the picture it still matters. And I feel it down right un-American to pick on a particular group because the few that abuse the system. And if you are mature enough to see the similarity between the two situations. You might be thinking the same thing I am that it's time to grow up. I bet the ones putting forth the ideas to implement such programs has never tried to figure out how to manage on a unemployment check and feed a family of four. Never mind the endless surprise expenses vehicle repair etc. And like I said I'll understand concern for abuse of such services when the employment situation improves till then it just seems like alot of finger pointing as a means of distraction for problems their afraid to admit they have no solution for. Or just a lack of ambition to figure them out. After all finger pointing is easier and distracting.

OK, GOP'ers, look at all the unnecessary funds required to perform such testing on responsible people who involuntarily lost their job. Someone please explain the qualifications to receive unemployment benefits to the GOP and anyone else who was elected to represent "we the people". Who will finance these tests? Do you hear the "1%" volunteering to finance the drug testing? As the GOP & union busters/vote blockers/don't tax the rich folks want to degrease govt, what federal state or local employees will be available to perform these tests?

Please tell me when the GOP will be slapped in the face with "reality".

I wished that the tsa would use this logic instead of wasting billions of dollars for abusing people. Why shouldn't people who are dependent on government aid be requireed to not use that aid for drugs?

Since most employers now drug test prior to employment, those that cannot pass a test are not employable. My advice, shave your head, stay clean and get a job.

There are even more reasons to say "no" to the drug testing authority. I've just blogged on one of them, http://bit.ly/uMxjZp .

I see the authority as part of a pattern. Like the unprecedented education requirement and "millionaires" exclusion, it would convert an insurance program to something more like a welfare program.
