Participation in Welfare Is Not Voluntary

Drug testing welfare recipients is an intrusion into private lives not consistent with U.S. values

So you're on welfare after becoming unemployed, or having been layed off. It is consistant with American values to help you when you are down. It is consistant with American values to help you up. Now all we need is a list of jobs that include "illegal drug use" as a qualification.

so that means i should not have to drug test to obtain employment. the unemployed and welfare recipients should be put under the same scrutiny as those that are lucky enough to have jobs.

Aaron Holbrook of TX 5:27PM February 01, 2012

Is does not matter if welfare benefit participants are more likely or less likely to abuse illegal drugs. What matters is that federal taxpayers' dollars shall not be used to buy these drugs. If you want welfare, than submitt to drug tests like other people do when applying for a job.

I agree with Allen B.

If working people have to take drug test to work and support the people on government welfare , then why shouldn't the people receiving the welfare be tested. AMEN

Are you kidding me??? How can you say that having to take a job that requires a drug test is voluntary. MOST jobs these days require drug testing. I have worked in the Oilfield for my entire 16 year career, and have been drug tested more times than I can remember. I have NEVER felt like it was a violation of my rights. Drugs are ILLEGAL-period. If I am on drugs, then I don't work. I don't work, I don't have money to support my family. It's that simple. If you are on drugs and taking my hard-earned tax dollars, then you deserve to be tested and sent for help. It's not about class warfare or any nonsense like that. It's about using tax dollars to buy ILLEGAL drugs and support an ILLEGAL business. When are people going to wake up and see that we can't keep up this pace of wasteful spending? Sooner or later (hopefully sooner), the American people will wake up and say "Enough". I pray for that day for my sake and the sake of my daughter.
