As a sixth-generation Montanan, I write in hopes you will consider this point, Senator Baucus;

"better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer" ~Blackstone Formulation

Sadly the VAWA completely disregards this foundation of our legal system, as well as the presumption of innocence, leading to situations such as this http://collegemencenters.com/?p=1003

As the article says, we need to prevent the problem rather than punish the guilty, which truly serves no one besides the penal system.
