Individual Mandate Goes Against Basic Freedom and Liberty

Congress has no power to mandate commerce into existence

Back to argument

The individual mandate does in fact go against freedom -- the freedom of people who chose not to have health insurance to shift their health care costs on me and the American taxpayer. Why should I have to pay higher premiums because you choose not to do the responsible thing and buy health insurance?

What about my freedom not to have to pay for someone who chooses not to have health insurance?

Conservatives used to recognize that one of the basic functions of government is to protect someone from the detrimental actions of another person. I wonder why that philosophy had changed?

Plus, its kind of rich that someone from the Heritage Foundation is opposing the individual mandate since the Heritage Foundation is the think tank that came up with the idea in the first place...
