Open Carry Is an Invitation to Chaos

People who choose to live in peace have the right not to be exposed to weapons and violence

" history of racially motivated violent actions against people of color"

May I suggest you read "Negros with Guns" so you understand how the southern black community's tried to arm themselves against the Ku Klux Klan and how the Democrats (who do you think the KKK were?) of the time passed law after law making it merely impossible for a black man to possess a firearm.

Have you ever considered that you are in favor of laws that do what the racists could never do by disarming a minority community and making them wholly dependent on a police force that is often, to put it nicely, indifferent to the plight of black people?

It is not the openly carried gun that need be feared by blacks, as they too can do the same. Even a gang of white thugs would be be given pause when confronting an armed black man.

The far more insidious crime is to deny them even the ability to defend themselves and make them dependent on a police force they know to be indifferent.

Open carry of firearms is not a problem. I am lucky to live in Arizona where we have open carry (really, really glad to be out of my anti-gun home state of Illinois). It is not uncommon to see someone carrying a weapon openly here on the street or in a store. Folks think nothing of it, except for some liberals who have moved here from the East Coast, California or other states that infringe on the 2nd Amendment rights of their residents.

This prediction of chaos if open carry passes is precisely the same rhetoric that has been uttered by anti-2nd Amendment people and politicians in all the states that have passed concealed carry and/or open carry laws. To date, the dire predictions have simply not happened, period.

It never ceases to amaze me that Democrats, who tend to be liberal and claim to be so concerned about civil rights, are usually the ones opposed to allowing folks exercise their 2nd Amendment rights.

"guns kill people"... OK... knives, rocks, baseball bats, bricks, pencils, cars, rope, arrows, hands,....... (I could go on and on), kill people too. Are you going to lobby against all of those as well?

"Wild west"? Really? Did you really say that? How did you get your position with that mentality.

As for law enforcement, you really believe they are super human and cannot make mistakes? I would put my training just as a high standard, if not more than some law enforcement.

Then, you pulled the race card, you need to say no more, you just showed everyone where you TRULY stand.

first, the good guys are the one open carrying. that's how you will tell the difference between them and the bad guys. the BGs hide their firearms

second if people of color had had firearms, instead of them being taken away by the gov. then there would not have been a massacre

open carry is not a danger, 99% will never leave the holster. but, the 1%will have their lives saved by having a firearm

Constance, as a government employee charged with uphold the Constitution, you sure are doing a terrible job.

Your fears are unfounded. Your comments are offensive. And just like the typical hopolophobe, you are afraid of guns. What you dont realize is that guns are not the issue. "A gun is responsible for killing someone"????? How is that? Without someone behind the gun pulling the trigger, the gun is an inanimate object. A paper weight. If you took the time to look at the facts, youll find that at no time after a pro carry law has passed, has there been blood in the streets, or "wild, wild, west" activities, as you and so many other violators like to believe.

The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. Follow it. Or leave.

Too bad she quotes no facts. Because the facts show that carry and open carry leads to less crime.

You do realize, don't you, that gun control was started by the Democratic Party just after the Civil War as a way to keep freed slaves from arming themselves for self-defense against (also Democratic) KKK.

Who voted this idiot into office. IF honest citizens go armed, the criminals tremble in fear. People like her warned of shootouts at the OK Corral with concealed carry. Didn't happen. Same argument now. Bottom line, there is nothing in these laws that prevent you from being investigated and charged if found to have used a gun without just cause or in a criminal manner. Shoot someone and not be cleared of any wrongdoing, you go to prison. Open carry and concealed carry are a recognition of the right to protect yourself and others. Nothing more. It does not authorize calling the local marshall or gunslick out for a duel. Which never happened in the "Old West" either, only in Hollywood fiction. Your Senator needs to learn history from somewhere besides TV and Movies.

I am waiting to buy property in Oklahoma and will not do so if the Open Carry laws are not approved. Open carry makes everyone safer, drives crime down, and gives everyone the freedom they deserve back.

Your fears are unfounded, and if you still thing you're right, then take a small challenge for me. I dare you!

Go to opencarry dot org, and note the open carry states. Now, go to the FBI website and look at the murder rate by state... not gun crime, but murder rates in total. Now look at other crime levels. Now, write all of those murder rates on a map, by state, and then tag each one as an open carry/open carry friendly, or no open carry state. Do you see it yet?

See the three anomalous states? The ones with high crime rates and are still open carry? Note that if you eliminate Alaska (high crime rates in the winter - high suicide rate) Arizona (High Illegal alien/drug problem) and New Mexico (same issues) then you even it out.

So now, with corrections, you will see that EVERY state with open carry has a lower crime rate than EVERY state with no open carry. And the level of open carry within the state (open carry state with city level restrictions) shows clearly that the more people who carry guns openly, the safer you are.

All smoke and mirrors. What do obesity, smoking and health disparity have to do with violence? Just because you pass a law you expect all problems associated with it to magically disappear. You speak of the second amendment and what founding fathers meant when they wrote it, to protect us from "subjection to rule by another country"? How about protection from our own unruly government? I feel safer knowing that law abiding citizens carry guns, because I know criminals carry guns. Just because you were elected to office does not mean that we gave you a pass to be better than us. You were elected to speak on our behalf. I don't understand how giving up a right makes other people feel safe, if we retract the second amendment to appease anyone, what rights can we keep? And who decides? You? I hope not. Let's be clear, a "weapon" wether it be a gun, knife or sharpened pencil is and always will be an inanimate object. Guns themselves are not violent, acts perpetrated by violent people are violent. Can we ban hammers? I know America was built by them but I heard an old lady was bludgeoned by one, in fact I don't feel comfortable around carpenters when they wear their tool belts. Can we ban carpentry next? See how stupid it sounds? Thank god I didn't go to college to learn how to tie everyone's hands with the law.
