Guns, Carried Openly or Concealed, Threaten Our Safety

Handguns do not serve as deterrents but rather consistently threaten our safety

What I find fascinating, in every forum or venue.. Josh Sugarmann, Dan Gross (B.C.) and Paul Helmke have NEVER actively debated or defended their positions. They are 'hit and run' activists who rely on hyperbole, half truths and outright fabrications.

Mr. Sugarmann,

Having a gun for self defense does not "guarantee" safety any more than having a smoke alarm will guarantee safety from a fire. Those who choose to own a gun for self defense are making a decision that they prefer the risks of having one over the risks of not having one. That is their right, and their freedom.

Perhaps everyone should disable the airbags in their cars because sometimes people are killed by the force of the bag expanding. Of course this is silly. This illustrates that one annecdotal circumstance cannot be used by itself to justify or villify a lawful course of action. If you want to carry a gun for protection, take a course, get training, get a permit, and do it. If you feel that having a gun is not for you, don't buy one.

But whatever you do, don't interfere with my right to choose how best to defend myself and my family.
