If Congress legalizes gay marriage, it will do so at the cost of traditional marriage

Blah, blah, it's the 21st century, and it's time for marriage equality now. Period.

So by that logic, why exactly hasn't Catholic churches in the U.S. lost their tax exempt status since the RCC doesn't recognize divorce?

Civil marriages obviously do, don't they?

Samian Quazi of TX 4:35AM October 09, 2011

Isnt it wonderful that kids will learn that gay people are to be respected, which is what marriage is all about.

the respect that will end the demonizing and driving to suicide of an endless list of gay kids, living now in a homophobic society.

Brian Brown has twisted everythin he says.

His predecessor Maggie Gallagher defended marriage btw, by having 2 illegitimate children

Maggie's contract with NOM called for her to get 30% off the top of all of Noms collections.

One must wonder what browns deal is but as usual

the lust for money is the root of all evil.

So Brian Brown says that churches etc opposed to gay marriage will be labeled as bigots.

the shoe fits. Wear it, Brian.

stop trying to claim you are the victim when you and your gang are the victimizer.

thats the oldest political trick in the book.

Brian brown is the leader of NOM. they replaced Maggie Gallagher when her defending marriage was revealed to include having two illegitimate children.

BTW NOM is now listed as a hate group by the southern poverty law center. Not for religious beliefs but for demonizing and spreading falsehoods about in this case gay people

BTW the catholic church gave NOM 2.3 Million $$$ in NY to fight equality for our gay and lesbian citizens.

Bishop Dolan who ranted against gay marriage in NY - well his former diocese of Milwaukee recently declared bankruptcy due to lawsuits re the endless hidden molestation of children.

Churches can discriminate all they want. They can refuse to let black people through the door. They can ban Jews from marrying Christians in their churches. They can be as bigoted as they'd like. That hasn't changed now that gay couples can get married. Thousands of churches already bless those unions and many don't. That's their prerogative.

James Wilson of OR 9:51PM October 08, 2011

Today, 21 states (42% of American citizens) have one or more legal forms of marriage equality: 6 have same-sex marriage (CT, DC, IA, MA, NH, VT); 4 have civil unions (DE, HI, IL, NJ); 11 have domestic partnership (CA, CO, MD, ME, NV, NM, NY, RI, OR, WA, WI).

On 18 March 2011, the ABC News and Washington Post reported that 53% of Americans surveyed support marriage equality for lesbian/gay couples.

Most of the New England states have had same-sex marriages for nearly a decade, and none of the things Brian Brown imagines ever came to pass.

In fact, the annual state divorce rates went down.

Now the proof exists: marriage equality harms neither same-sex nor opposite-sex couples, divorce rates go down, government tax revenues increase, and all citizens enjoy the same constitutional freedoms.

The only thing that didn’t happen is that evangelical Christians didn’t get to impose their religious sect rules upon the rest of society. But that’s OK, because most of society rejects the evangelical Christian sects, and the U.S. Constitution guarantees both freedom of religion and freedom from religion for everyone.

Count the number of ad hominem (1. appealing to one's prejudices, emotions, or special interests rather than to one's intellect or reason. 2. attacking an opponent's character rather than answering his argument.) arguments finding fault in Mr. Brown's dichotomy. Those who don't have logical arguments, fall back on ad hominem opinions (not given the status or an "argument", because it is not an argument in proper debate.)

After all, it is not marriage of homosexual partners that's literally the issue. It is civil marriage for all same-sex adults (how do you tell friendships apart from homosexual partners? Cannot. Get real.). Well, then marriage would mean simply friendship. It is returning to primitive times when force justifies what words mean. It is not modernistic to support same-sex civil marriage. That has been tried before many times. Only the most primitive few societies accept it, today. In Roman times one Caesar forced the senate to let him marry his horse. It is modernistic to discern between marriage and friendship. You might not like it, but what you like is not a logical argument, or we could prove anything, including the reverse - which means we couldn't prove anything anymore.
