Voter fraud is a major problem...Yes..blame it on race people....BUT...THE GOVERNMENT LETS IT HAPPEN...IT IS THE FAULT OF CROOKED POLITICIANS WHO ARE DESPERATE FOR THEIR CROOKED CANDIDATE TO WIN..AND WILL GO TO GREAT LENGTHS TO GET THEM IN OFFICE...OBAMA IS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF THIS!!!!!!!!!!! HE DOES NOT DESERVE A SECOND CHANCE...MOST AMERICANS DO NOT AGREE WITH HIS PLATFORM..BUT...THEY GOT THE YOUNG SINGLES ..HISPANICS....THE WANT FREE STUFF PEOPLE TO VOTE..AND THEY WERE ABLE TO GET AMERICAN'S THAT WERE OUT FOR THAT AGENDA TO COMMIT FRAUD!! and the government will not to a thing about it!!

Except it is easy to commit fraud, especialy in states that only require a utility bill or student id (which doesnt specify citizenship), it's so easy in fact that checking for it is almost impossible because there are very few mechinisms in place to actually verify for states that dont have voter ID laws. The low incidence of this kind of fraud being caught is a direct result of the lax laws requiring any verification. If you can't ask for ID, how are you going to single out the ineligible ones? You can't unless you employ racial profiling and how fair is that to our real citizens?

How fair is it to every voter whos vote is canceled out by an illegal voter? We have to pretect our real citizens rights not those here illegally or ineligible because of crimes.

If there is an actual bar to getting an ID other than citizenship...then its suppression.

However, measuring current voter fraud based on convictions is STUPID when the accusation is that we few measures in place to detect individual voter fraud. Ideally the system would insert test ballots to show that false ballots are detected.

I do not know what the level of voter fraud is.

#1 But I do know that when FRAUD of any type is SUCCESSFUL it goes largely UNDETECTED.

#2 Where voter fraud is detected - convictions are almost always against voting officials changing ballots.

#3 INDIVIDUAL VOTERS are seldom convict of voting fraud because proof generally violates privacy of secret ballot and current voting processes -- especially if voting occurs at several different polling stations. News agencies continually report being able to send the same person through the line several times...guess there is good reason for no cameras rules as polling stations simply deny it.

#4 But in most cases suspicious ballots are merely discarded and for political reason -- no one is prosecuted...though certain low lower level precinct officials are often dismissed.

The real "secret" debate is over the possibly valid Democrat assertion that long term illegals are "self naturalizing and obviously patriotic enough" to be considered valid American voters. Personally I think the issue should be presented that way.

I do love the BrennanCenter.org "analysis"

which looked at closely basically states that voter fraud is rare because the "honor system" works. Again it hard to notice crime if you set out make sure you cannot detect it. Now the underlying philosophy that such a system bolsters a happier more "positive" thinking population might be correct. I just don't think we need to lie about taking "political uppers" if that is what society as a whole decides is best.

Better to say "yes voter fraud exists but the harm done by measuring it and struggling to stop far outweighs the ill feeling and strife such measures create. Better one EQUALLY Qualified and Equally Patriotic candidate from the other party in office than a riot over discontent." Essentially I think that is the unwritten law we have been living with so far. Why not acknowledge it formally? Every Democrat knows its not always about the law. Sometimes its about what the people need.

Just a quick comment on the ignorance of the statement about the constitutionality of voting. No citizen has the constitutional right to vote. First, rights come from our creator not government. Second, if it were unconstitutional then felons could not be barred from voting. Third, voting is a privilege in our country. We set standards like say being registered. Not everyone has access to a DMV so registering to vote must be akin to Jim Crowe laws no? Your ignorance of our constitution, and lack of logic makes me want to puke. You shouldn't vote based solely on the premise of ignorance.

If you think that requiring a picture ID is wrong then you want your vote to be cancelled w/ someone who is not supposed to vote.

Florida has eliminated the right to vote the Sunday before the election. There's no logic to this, other than the Republican-led legislature trying to minimize the vote of African Americans and Latinos that came out strong to vote the Sunday before the 2008 election. Call it what it is, it's not about voter fraud it's about voter suppression.

USABob of GA 11:29PM June 19, 2012

totally wrong, you know as do most law abiding americans that voter ID is nothing more complex than picking up a parcel at the post office, which requires ID, buying alcohol, driving a car,

voting is a RIGHT AFFORDED TO CITIZENS OF THIS COUNTRY (LIVING CITIZENS) and ONLY THE REAL CITIZEN, not someone falsely claiming to be someone they are not, or claiming to be a citizen when they are not.

If you have not noticed, we have an illegal alien problem here in this country with tens of millions of illegal entrants into our country that any other country including Mexico would not permit..

Stop holding up the "victim card" for people committing crimes and start caring for the "real" victims whose ID is used to cast a vote they never cast.

If one believes in attacking all parts of the voting system which are insecure; those parts that create uncertainty as to the honest outcome, then the effort may be misallocated if only exerted towards this so-called problem, which of course is a bad thing but in reality is not on the top, or even close to it, of the list of election vulnerabilities.

The Republican effort to focus on this one marginal aspect of elections security whilst absolutely refusing to debate the entire gamut of serious election system vulnerabilities, is suspicious. It's almost as if they are trying to misdirect people's attention for nefarious purposes.
