Obama Policy Is Positive Step, But Could Delay Real Reform

President Obama is doing the right thing by halting deportations, but the actual effects of the policy remain to be seen

I live in a basically rural county. There is a college here and the students are always looking for work in the summer. The Department of State is currently issuing permits to bring in foreign workers taking jobs away from those that need to supplement their education money.

They are NOT DOING jobs that Americans would not do. The house next door started out with a foundation, all spanish speaking people. They came the framing crew - one spoke English out of 10. The came the bricklayers and electricians - all non-English speaking. I asked the General Contractor and he said it was almost impossible to get an all legal crew in the construction business.

With Americans hurting and their children going into debt for college, the workers need to be hired BEFORE importing low cost labor from other countries.

The president should be doing everything possible to put Americans to work. Overwhelming an already bad situation (too few jobs, high unemployment) with more people (those here illegally) looking for jobs is about as stupid as it comes. Soon their entire extended family will be reunited here - and each one of those people's extended families, etc, and many of them will be looking for jobs. Reunite them all in their homeland!

The parents decided to bring their children here when they themselves came here illegally. Not the child's fault. OK. But that doesn't mean we have to make it right. The parents and the child/children should all go home. It was a risk to come, the child got educated which is what they wanted, now go home and use that education to better your own country.

No risk I ever took had such a safety net. No decision my parents made for me had such a safety net. Why do Illegals get a safety net? They came here with no guarantees. It was a risk. Too bad, so sad. There are consequences for every action and they are not always pleasant. They came with the knowledge and expectation that they may one day have to go back home so send them home.

There are many abuses of our hospitality by Illegals. They have abused every loophole found in our system. This one will be abused as well, and it will only encourage more people to come here illegally and wait out the next courtesy handed out to make Illegals all feel rosey.

People here illegally should not have the same privileges as American and legal citizens. We have allowed ourselves to be bullied into submission and have bent over backwards to make Illegals happy. Why? They are here outside of the law! The shear numbers of them is the reason they are able to bully us. That should be reason enough to stop them.

The only EXECUTIVE ORDERS that should have taken place was to mandate the use of E-Verify across the country, and to cut back immigration numbers until we are back on track economically.

Mr. President, you have failed this country miserably!

"We lose the benefits of one more free and productive person, and Heydi loses decades of greater earned income, a higher standard of living, and the freedom to live where she chooses."

If we were talking about one person, we could say OK to anything.

But we are talking about hundreds of millions of people who want to come to America. If we take them all in, then America will end up a Third World country like the ones they want to escape.

How does that help us or them?

"If Americans want to employ, sell products to, and rent housing to Heydi, they should be allowed to without government enforced disqualifications based merely on birth location."

What you are really saying here is that America is not a country owned by and controlled by its citizens.

You and your employer the Cato Institute can talk all you want but you cannot take America away from Americans -- unless we are stupid enough to let you.

This country belongs to Americans, not to business owners who want to make a quick buck by hiring immigrants instead of us.

I urge all readers to speak out against the scandalous lies about America that the Cata Institute puts forth.

It seems all you friggin liberals think it's a grand thing Obama has done. But what about the American Citizens that cannot find work? Or those who have had to take part time work just to feed their familes? No, all you see, is how wonderful it is to be generous, with other people's money! This is a disaster for American's because many of these new green card workers will accept lower wages, and take dsome good jobs, an that means lower wages for American Citizens, and less jobs as well. Short sighted people canno see the long term problems with illegal immigration and amnesty in any form. We, the American people were promised twice before that we would never grant any form of amnesty again. But in true liberal fashion, we have it shoved own our throats again!

I don't think people like Obama and Alex understand what giving into illegals' demands can do to this country. We can only feel sorry for other people to a certain point, we can't save the world and allowing these so call Dream children to get a permit to stay here is only asking for an increase in illegal immigration. What needs to be done is to stop allowinig illegals to work, does everyone know that the US is giving illegals numbers so they can be contracted? This is wonderfull for some employers, contracting instead of employing, no benefits and more money for the pockets of the rich. I barely make it to middle class and I work my butt off, I went to school and owe all kinds of loans and 5 years ago, my income was reduced to 1/2 because of the recession. And now the children of parents who immigrated illegally to this country 5 years ago will get a permit to work and compete against people like me that are struggling. If you haven't heard of the train that passes through Mexico from Central America every day, then you need to see it, take a look at these two websites. Not even the cartels in Mexico stops them because they know they will find work once they get here.

Obama needs to stop illegal immigration before giving a helping hand, especially for only being here 5 years (that is distrubing), that's a slap to the majority of American, the working class.

Mr Alex, sir, I am not the highly educated Mensa Analyst that you may be... however, I find some of your comments to be exclusively selected and one sided... (1) "WE lose the benefit of one more free and productive person". Are you awarea that we have Millions of U.S. citizens at this time that are "free but not productive....we know them as Millions of Legal U.S. Citizens that are unemployed, and you want to add what could be up to 2-3 Million people to compete for jobs with Legal U.S. Citizens, how conveinient and senseless as an arguement...

(2) You have reduced our Federal Immigration Law to a comment as "disqualificatins based merely on birth location"...this could not be further from the Current Immigration Law and, if you look at the reality of a Process of Law that has been systematically abused for 3 decades, you will quickly reveal reality to your readers. The Family reunifcation act was rampant with fraud and abuse by Illegal Immigrant families in which one candidate would fraudulantly bring in up to 80 others into the Country...

(3) "The freedom to live where she chooses"...your outlook simply opens the floodgates to everyone that may be dissatisfied where they were born and live, and that they may do so withour regard for our Legal Citizens who must find a job, pay their bills, pay taxes, and scratch out a standard of living for themselves whithout undue competition. You completely ingonre the facts of life in our own country...

Open the front door to your own home and invite everyone to come in , and most likely it will not be long before you realize that you must establish some form of enforcment and rules before you are simply getting runover and see no end in sight...

The truth is that there has been a very real "Negative Socio-Economic Impact" caused by out-of-control Illegal Immigration and those that you speak of are part and parcel to the crisis. U.S. Citizens have been forced to subsidize Illegal Immigration for decades now...when you subsidize something you will get more of it...and you do not always solve the problem...in this case you are politically subsidizing a greater problem...

I suggest that you be more balanced in your reporting and next time we will benefit from being informed on "the rest of the Story"...You might want to include American Workers and Their Families who have been subjected job displacement and wage suppression, as well as overcrowded schools, stressed medical systems...

In Nevada, the taxpayers have to pay more per year to subsidize an Illegal Immigrant Inmate, than the annual cost to educate a student...

Sir, I just have to ask you, where are the priorities and common sense...that would be a worthwhile discussion for you, and be sure to include American Workers and their Families also, I believe you simply overlooked an important point or two...

Legal Immigrant of NV 1:54PM June 20, 2012

Prosperity for WHOM? Certainly not American citizens who are unemployed due to this administration's handling of the economy!

Obama CLEARLY overstepped his right in this matter. He should NOT have broken the law and given amnesty to ANYONE! That's what Congress is for, not the Administrative branch!

Obama MUST be removed from office, along with the rest of his law-breaking thug friends!

Although the child did not have any choice in the matter of being brought to America illegally, her parent made that choice just as any American parent does for their child. Our children have to live by the decisions we make, whether good or bad, and just because they want to stay in America does not justify the fact that they are illegal.

If Americans break the laws of our land, we are punished and FORCED to obey them (such as being made to wear a seat belt whether we want to or not). Our government expects us to follow ALL laws and that should go for anyone who is living on American soil.

Illegals should come the legal way or go back to their own country and then apply for legal entrance into the US. Obama should have asked that Immigration take into consideration the fact that this child lived in America for so many years and give their APPLICATION FOR ENTRANCE TO AMERICA a higher priority. That way, the child gets to return to America sooner, but legally as it should be.

As for Obama deciding who can and cannot remain in America, that is not up to him. He should follow the laws of our land also and let CONGRESS decide which is the way it is supposed to be. Hopefully, the American people will wake up and vote to get this sorry excuse out of our White House and put someone there who will respect the American people and not run to other countries apologizing for us. I never gave him permission to tell some other country leader that I am sorry for the things that are done here. Instead of trying to hurt Americans, Obama needs to tell his wife that she can't go on so many trips and to stop spending so much money that the taxpayers are having to pay out. Americans that work and pay their taxes are allowed one week vacation per year(some less) and that should go for any elected official. My husband's employer will not pay for me to take a vacation, so why should the taxpayers pay for the first family to vacation? They should have to pay for their own just the way working Americans are having to do. From what the news reports that was spent on just one vacation made by the first family, our deficit will drop considerably if this was enforced.

I used to hear the Mexican media advising learn how Americans think.

Mr Alex your words are words of trick!

We should not ignore the benefits of illegals/organized crime?

1-When they came to the US theydo not know no body and some live in cannions, violence is hi within themselves:kidnapping, rapes, gangs, and so on.

Situation that will not have in Mexico!

They are almost Americans?

Do we have to use our taxes to translate, dial 2...,they are loyal to the Mexican flag, they never protest against the Mexican govt or the Mexican media for their vulgarity or when they play narco

corridos celebrating that they poisoin Americans;why not? Because they are being induaced to be loyal to Mexico and to hate white Americans and the American way of living.

I will say do not forget that the organized crime is

because human smuglers for sex, labor and drug

cartels!!!

Who benefit of this induced super selfish illegal "humans"that are willing to corrupt everything where they are?

I know the answer to all the illegals is to deny amnesty so all the illegals have to go back to Mexico to rescue the "children of the streets" and apply the knowledge they got to this children that after all are the childrens that were abandoned by the illegals. This children for you Mr Alex and for Obama and felipe Caldeeron have no monetary value! But they die in the streets of Mexico because their parents wanted to became humans and have

childrens that they can be used to extortion Americans!

Obama’s actions circumvent current law & congress. The 1985 Amnesty was passed by congress & signed by the President with an expected 500,000 qualified illegals. Over 2 million applied. The market for ID theft & forged documents soared. The courts, LE, & govt lawyers were overwhelmed. When I last checked in 2005, 20 years after the program started there were still cases on appeal. Then the next generations waited for the next amnesty.
