ANWR Is the Best Prospect for Onshore Domestic Oil Production

Every drop of oil we get from a U.S. well is one less dollar we send abroad

"We have been safely producing oil in the arctic for more than 30 years," Really? Nevermind the Exxon Valdez.

"Money buried in the ground." You're right, and it is not going anywhere. It will always be there, but Alaska's vast unspoilt beauty won't because of shortsighted, impatient greed, whose agenda you are pushing.

I didn't know oil cost a dollar a drop....

You're either in the back pocket of the oil companies or you are incredibly naive! In either case, it is people like you that have driven Congress' approval ratings to the lowest point ever! The American people as a majority don't support "Drill, baby, drill!" We've seen what that's gotten us and where we are. All of the potential oil in ANWR (which would take years and years and much devastation to the natural environment to extract) would only fuel our oil thirst for a few months. Trade off? Destroy one of our most beautiful natural areas for short term avoidance of the need to develop alternative energies? Let me ask - do you drive a SUV?

It looks like too many of us have drank the kool-aid and are willing to let our children and our grand-children pay for the mistakes that we are making by not opening up oil fields anywhere in North America. Why do we have to be the bad guys anymore? I believe that no one wants to harm our environment anymore. I think we have learned our lessons from the past, one it seems we have not learned is "more government solves everything". We need to de-fund a lot of these obsolete programs that keep holding us back. I think as a country we have grown up and need to take it back from those who seem to only want to destroy us from with-in. Thank you Senator Murkowski for your stance.

Surely you can leave this bit of wild and wonderful Alaska for my grandchildren, right? Maybe I'd be more inclined toward your arguments if you were vigorously arguing for meaningful energy conservation.

Thank you, Senator, for a common sense approach and a reasonable voice in this debate.

I'm proud to know how to spell your name.

this whole prospect is absurd and one more nail in the coffin of humanity. deploying sustainable sane technologies and abandoning fossile fuels is the only chance outre children have. all you corporate sellouts will rot in hell...

To start generating that much oil and money we would need more refineries and that would put the Clean air act at risk, as well as ALL our lives. It's time to invest in our future of becoming sustainable!

Murkowski's claim that we have not been safely producing oil on the North Slope for twenty years is only true from the perspective of an oil field. Prudhoe Bay is rife with spills and criss crossed with pipelines but Murkowski thinks it's good habitat because it's not completely biologically dead. Prudhoe Bay does not have any of the characteristics of a wildlife refuge, particularly one that was designated for it's pristine character.

Murkowski is guilty of not remembering history. The Refuge was designated as a compromise between conservationists and big oil. Conservationist got 10% of the slope and oil got the rest. The compromise was lopsided toward Big Oil from the beginning and now they want to take the rest. It's a gross misuse of the English language to call an oil field a wildlife refuge and that is precisely what Murkowski wants to do.

She won't get my vote next time she's up for election.
