There are No Limits on Dishonesty in the Obama-Romney Race

Propaganda and dishonesty have always existed in politics, but the 2012 campaign takes it to a new level

Back to argument

Romney is doubling down on his lies -- shameful.

"Mitt Romney's campaign continued to attack President Barack Obama over welfare reform with the release of a new ad on Monday, once again falsely stating that the president dropped work requirements from welfare. The ad, titled "Long History," is the second ad from the Romney campaign to claim that Obama has "gutted" welfare."

Luis of CA,

Your statement; "...try Politifact's ratings--"!

PolitiFact Bias:

1) The best evidences showing PolitiFact's liberal slant...

http://politifactbias.blogspot.com/

2) PolitiFact decided to get cute with words and nail an accurate statement by a conservative advocacy group as "Mostly False" for supposed contextual issues. http://m.newsbusters.org/blogs/matt-hadro/2012/05/21/politifact-rates-another-accurate-gop-claim-mostly-false-cnn

3) Some are wondering if accusations that PolitiFact leans left are justified now that it’s been disclosed its editor, Warren Fiske, has been a regular voter in Democratic primaries.

http://bearingdrift.com/2012/08/08/pants-on-fire-politifact-editor-fiske-and-his-democratic-votes/

4) PolitiFact called one ad's accuracy "mixed at best." FactCheck.org said it presented a "one-sided, often distorted and misleading view"!

http://www.usatoday.com/NEWS/usaedition/2012-03-22-Does-Truth-Matter_ST_U.htm

5) Pontifact: It turns out that those who serve the Truth-O-Meter often have strange ideas about what constitutes truth.

There are virtually hundreds of websites that state the same fact that Pontifact is left-biased as the dickens, but I really do not have the time nor inclination to waste any more time with "pants on fire" people like you.

"Obama's surrogates are just as guilty."

It was pretty easy to guess just from the article title that this writing was going to put forward the favorite media distortion of the modern age: false equivalency. You note one small mistruth by Romney and a big whopper from Obama surrogates, and readers come away with the impression that at least both sides are equally guilty--or maybe even that Obama is worse.

Nothing could be further from the truth, of course; the Romney campaign has, both directly and through surrogates, put forth far more lies, and far more egregious lies, than has the Obama campaign. One only needs to listen and read objectively to see this fact plain as day, but if you want a more authoritative source, try Politifact's ratings--Romney has his "pants on fire" about five times more than Obama, with outright lies being about double Obama's; Republican surrogates and pundits account for about 90% of the "pants on fire" judgments, and about 75% of the outright lies.

For every distortion by Obama you can find several by Romney; for every lie by an Obama surrogate, there is a flood by Romney's troops.

But of course, we can't say that out loud, right? Because stating facts objectively means that you're "in the tank" for the liberals. And we all know that appearances are more important than truth. Sad when Stephen Colbert's absurd mockery of the political system is so accurate in its representation.

"Propaganda and dishonesty have always existed in politics, but the 2012 campaign takes it to a new level."

This certainly is not surprising when we look at "that" who is sitting in our Oval Office chair who has accomplished a very negative progress report in nearly every facet of our Federal Government during his entire tenure.

Since Mr. Obama certainly can't run on his record,

what else can he do, except fling trash at his opposition???

You're a baaaaad man, Mr. Obama of MN 3:14PM August 10, 2012
