I thought the author represents the Freedom from Religion foundation. Why then is she promoting pagan ideas of religion? Freedom from religion should be free from religion. I believe you owe your readers and your foundation honesty about your beliefs and motivations.

Thank you, Anne Gaylor for your truthful comments about christmas,and trying to free people from myths.

Christians are under the impression that they worship the SON, when they actually worship the SUN.

See...

"for the Lord God is a sun" (Psalm 84:11);

"God is a consuming fire, also light" (Deut. 4:24, John 1:5);

"And the gentiles shall come to thy light, and the kings to the brightness of thy rising" (Isaiah 60:3)

Dogma Fail.

Excellent commentary! Annie Laurie has a beautiful mind. Christians have pretended that their savior was born on Dec. 25th when they have no facts to back it up. How do they do it?

Actually, Dec. 25th should not be a paid holiday for anyone. No one should get a day off to goof-off and get paid for goofing-off merely because it is the Winter Solstice. If this day attaches such significance, then why not include the Summer Solstice, the Spring Equinox and the Autumn Equinox as paid holidays too?

This year, is unique in that Dec. 25th lands on a Sunday. Most people will be celebrating Christmyth on Dec. 26th. Huh!

Have a cool Yule, folks

Bill Walker of PA 3:21PM December 22, 2011

The winter solstice is my favorite day of the year. It's the shortest day signifying that the planet has started to tilt back to spring and summer.

It's a great comfort to me knowing that each and every day from now until summer solstice is getting just a little bit more sunny.

Ah the voice of reason, thank you Annie Gaylor, and a happy secular holiday to you and your family.

The Christian "war on Christmas" is as fabricated as the story of Noah's Ark. Who's stopping Christmas? No one, relax Christians.
