Supreme Court's Obamacare Ruling Gives Romney a New Rallying Cry

Republicans will organize around opposition to Obamacare, which means trouble for the president

Back to argument

Two heads of two branches of our Constitutional branches of government (Roberts in the Judiciary and Obama in the Executive) have given their imprimatur to the recent health care legislation. I think that constitutionally these two individuals have done their respective duties as the Constitution directs. As Justice Roberts indicated in his Opinion there is nothing that says the mandate for health insurance must stand, it is for Congressional action to make and change laws. One of the first commenters indicated that the Obamacare mess is why he won't vote for him the second time around. The point of Gary in Florida that the argument was filled with Fox News talking points was right on the money. Politicians of the left and right, many members of the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, have let America down but not nearly as much as the misinformed talking points generated by Obama haters. It's fine to be an Obama hater but it is not ok to be a hater of Two of the Three Articles of the United States Constitution and let the legislative Article go unscathed. America is at a crossroads and perhaps the election in the fall will result in a government "of, by and for" the people. Whether it is support for Romney that "excites" you or support for Obama that "excites" you. The balance of power is with the people and the representatives and senators that they will elect in the fall. Politicians are the problem and that problem is exacerbated by the fourth estate in focusing on what advertisements will bring the most revenue not on what is best for the country. Perhaps if we weren't so tied to the "Fox News talking points" or the MSNBC talking points we would allow an honest discussion of the problems. I haven't read the entire decision of the US Supreme Court but all the opinions were well thought out and not controlled by the market place

This may have been a victory for the president but the American people almost certainly disagree. Hopefully people will realize (if they haven't already), that he is trying to force us into something we dont want. It is not an issue that grew organically out of the wants and proclamations of the citizens in this country. He is underestimating our intelligence. It is a bad feeling being patronized to by your leader. The American people will speak in November. I truly believe that.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) could be referred to as Good Samaritan Care. ACA essentially implements many of the values of the Good Samaritan Parable. It's full of anti-conservative values as is much of the Christian New Testament.

When Romney vows to do away with the ACA on his first day in office, he might as well say he'd like to crucify the one who told that parable. It's values are anathema to conservatives. Those are Sen. McConnell (R-KY) sentiments as well.

Neither Romney nor conservatives in general want to recognize that the ACA is a part of the Constitution's general welfare clause. As such, it's Congress' duty to levy & collect taxes, pay debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare.

"The public good, the real welfare of the great body of the people, is the supreme object to be pursued." (James Madison, Federalist Paper 45) The ACA does that. It's in keeping with the intent of our founders.

I voted for Obama with the sort of excitement I have not had about a president since the days of JFK.

I now look forward to voting against him,

and the Obamacare mess is the single greatest reason why. I expect and hope fervently that Obamacare will cause enough people to rally against Obama that Obama will

lose the election this time.
