President Obama Needs to Ban Assault Weapons

We need restrictions on both gun and ammunition sales

Back to argument

"Assault Weapon" is a made-up term used to describe a whole range of guns that have "evil features" too scary for the public to endure. The reality is that only the military and the PD have true "assault weapons" and the civilian populace have semi-automatic rifles.

AJ of CA 1:24PM July 30, 2012

An Assault Weapon is a Full-Automatic machine gun...unfortunately the news media, mostly due to them being leftist and totally unknowing of what most firearms are, wrongly call the AR-15 an assault rifle, which, it ain't.

What we need is a fast track on Death Row, so that crooks know that when they kill someone Death will come on Swift Wings!! You get ONE appeal, better make it a GOOD one!! No more of the Endless BS appeals!!

To stop crime you have to make the Punishment Swift and Certain. Anything less leads to the high crime rates we have now.

Besides, banning guns would work about as well as banning Pot or Alcohol...which as we've noticed, doesn't work to well!!

Paul Kersey of FL 11:45AM July 30, 2012

Assault weapons have no place in the world.

It is one thing for a sane person to have a

pistol @ home....that person knows he/she is

putting children @ risk with their choice. They

are also putting their life @ risk as an angry

teenager has no frontal lobe maturity. One

would do better with wasp spray for heavens

sake!! Surely any logical person knows assault

weapons are only for mass death.

Josh Sugarmann you my friend have been classified as a blood sucking liberal and for that you are retarted. How dare you say we should take steps towards stripping a small piece of our 2nd amendment rights. We already have a tight leash on gun laws (thank you for texas) what do you want us to only be allowed to arm ourselves with rubber band guns? One bad seed does not make the crop bad. Maybe as americans we should take steps towards exercising our beautiful liberty and arm to protect ourselves because a police officer cant hold your pocket all the time unless you want that police state right? GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE. Ask your blood sucking liberal president to fund more mental health professionals to identify a dangerous individual who is capable to of these crimes and to commit them instead of stuffing their pockets and while your at it have yourself evaluated for the BSLD (blood sucking liberal disease) for stupidity. I for one will never give up my rights to people like you!

When the government fears the people you are free when the people fears the government you have tyranny .the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed . This is the way the people keeps its government in check the only people who would take guns away are the people who wish to do harm . Three things freed us from tyranny God,Guns, and Guts and you sir need the last

Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

The U.S. city with the most restrictive gun laws in the nation, Washington, D.C., has the highest murder rate at 24 per 100,000. The state with the most unrestrictive gun regulations, Vermont, has the lowest murder rate at 0.48 per 100,000.

I recently bought 1000 rounds of 9mm ammo locally from a vendor and just last week ordered another 1000 rounds of ammo online, so what is your point? How did buying ammo online make this tradegy anymore overwhelming? What did buying the ammo online have to do with anything, he could have probably just as easily purchased locally, if he chose to do so...the only difference is my ammo purchases where not with the intent to go inflict bodily harm upon other human beings

The real problem is the individual, not the weapon. People have used cars to run over other people, do we now start fighting to ban vehicles? More people are killed by other peoples bare hands every year than killed by firearms, what do you propose there? The real fact, the one fact that you always fail to address, is the fact that bad people will do bad things, using whatever means they have available to them. All you anti gun people do is take every instance that involves a firearm and use it as your own ammunition to go do some more preaching at the pulpit to get more gun control.

We have gun control, it just doesn't matter to the unstable mind who is intent on doing something bad to other people. Law abiding citizens should not be penalized for the acts of the mentally unstable individuals who commit these acts. We have enough laws already on the books to cover all of this but when people disregard the law there is little to stop them from doing these things. Having less people out there with the ability to defend themselves is not a viable answer, unless you want more people put in a position to be victims

Josh Sugarmann, you are a disgrace to fellow Americans, if in fact you are an American. Your piece is also flawed and inaccurate. For one thing, firearms sales are the highest they have ever been, likely in part because of the Leftwing Marxist now occupying the White House. I am so sick of you elitist leftwing idiots. You see no problem with the ATF and Justice Department allowing thousands of so called "asault weapons" illegally into Mexico in their Fast and Furious program that was cooked up in an attempt to provide "ammo" for further gun control in the United States. Hundreds of Mexican citizens have been killed in connection with this gun walking scheme, not to mention one of our border patrol agents Brian Terry. Where is your outrage or your article about this federal government scandal? Are these human beings somehow less valuable than those murdered in Aurora Colorado?

You don't have outrage or a concern about Fast and Furious because you likely agree with it and its nefarious purpose.

I am standing on the shoulders of giants, The Framers of our Constitution, that had the wisdom to protect the right of law abiding citizens to keep and bear arms. I am the NRA and I stand with its millions of members and also Gun Owners of America and will not stand for this bogus attempt to take away my legal right to protect myself and loved ones.

Hey Josh!

Fancy seeing you on this side of the argument! Do you still have the FULLY AUTOMATIC rifles that you bought for "research"?

Of course you do! What a bunch of retards the people supporting you are! Bet you have a good laugh at them.

E-mail me regarding the best prices for ammo on the net. I'm running low.

Jacques Looch of TN 9:55AM July 29, 2012

Josh, stop with the phony emotional pleas, we all know you're just another Liberal control freak.

Since you reference the gun bans in the U.K. and Australia, why don't come right out and say you have no respect for the US Constitution, in your first paragraph?

I'm a law abiding citizen. What I own and what I do in my spare time is none of your business. And free men will always think this way.
