Proponents for more gun control are making a dangerous argument

"A militia, when properly formed, are in fact the people themselves...and include all men capable of bearing arms." (Richard Henry Lee, Additional Letters from the Federal Farmer (1788) at 169)

"Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American... The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state government, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people" (Tench Coxe, Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788)

Anti gun advocates are the worst kind of hypocrite.

It makes no sense to me why anti-gun Love! to blame all tragedies like Colorado on GUNS. This “carrot top” was clearly insane and we continue to profile him as a “right wing conspirator”. It is crazy to think or even attempt to change the publics mind about these incidents.

Guns in the hands of the law abiding people is our Constitutional right. Guns in the hands of the terrorist, is like guns in the hands of those who care less about the Constitution or our rights. Why do we make up LAWS that only the law abider pays attention to? The LAWLESS people will exist with or without laws and they will kill, murder, rape and rob no matter how many laws congress wants to create. This is not about GUNS or LAWS, it is a fact of life and our society has a hard time understanding, and…our politicians have no common sense about this and I don’t expect that to change any time soon.

I don't think that having more shooters in a darkened and chaotic theater, even those with heroic intentions, would have been such a hot idea.

Uh we are the furthest from a rich country. We are so far in debt we have no money! I'm surprised our checks are even excepted.

We are talking about the constitution. Our 2nd ammendment. Without these you wouldn't be able to speak freel, your wife couldn't vote, and slavery would still be around.

Why should those who do follow the laws be punished? Makes no sense. If the laws we have we enforced more criminals would think twice. This guy wont be tortured, and will probably plea insane and get it!

We have the right to protect ourselves and don't need to be told we cant because this guys messes up. What if I got in my car hit and killed someone and then they took away that right to everyone cause one person did it?

Of course the other argument is that if we restrict gun sales, there will simply be more criminals with guns. This is total bunk. Where do you think the crime get their guns. They either buy or steal them from gun stores or buy or steal from gun owners, who purchased them legally. either way they start out as legal weapons. In addition, the socially awkward nuts who commit these massacres aren't going to go into downtown Detroit to negotiate purchase of weapons and ammo from gang bangers. Furthermore, gun crimes are often spontaneous acts. If there isn't a gun lying around then it takes much more planning to commit the act. By the time a person acquires an illegal firearm, they have had a chance to calm down, or they've been shot by the gang banger!

I'm so tired of hearing this argument about guns being necessary to prevent government tyranny. What century are we in? What does the government of the richest democracy in the world have to gain from terrorizing it's citizens? Which members of our armed forces are going to commit this tyranny. You 2nd amendment advocates say you have the deepest respect for our military but at the same time you think they'll come into our homes and start killing us? Please drop this BS.

In addition, what is this nonsense about cow's being necessary to protect against these types of attacks. This latest killer provided a handy blueprint for getting around this problem. After all he was a smart kid. Simply drop a couple of smoke bombs in before you start shooting. That way, although you can't see your targets, the hillbillies with ccws can't see you. The advantage that you have is that you're shooting fish in a barrel, whereas the hillbillies have to hit a needle in a haystack. The best they'll likely manage is to take out a couple more of your targets.

Let's wake up and smell the coffee

Caldicot of UT 2:00AM July 27, 2012

If guns kill people, then I suppose spoons make people fat huh? Now you see that it is the one on control of the gun, the one who presses the trigger that causes death...not the gun. If guns killed people, there would be a 50% chance of dying everytime you enter a gunstore...but you do not, because guns do NOT kill people. People kill people.

I see the comments that say no one 'needs' a gun or a high capacity magazine, etc. This sort of need is an unanswerable prediction. While you hear many people ask why a person needs a gun let alone to carry one, and many answers in the form of scenarios are given, the truth is no one needs a gun until the need arises. When the need arises, the definitive answer is right there in your face.

The only answer as to why a person must bear arms is to meet the need when it arises. It's the same for how much ammo one should carry. You don't know how much ammo you should carry until you need it. Just don't get caught short. The life you might have to defend might be mine!

The point is that the nutcase here didn't bring guns into the theater when he bought his ticket; he acted like he was on a cell call, and went out the side door (ostensibly so as not to disrupt the movie), propping the door open so he could get back in. When he came back a few minutes later he was armed to the teeth.

Theaters will now have to have an alarm on the emergency doors, which will alarm until it's closed.

We had that back in NY when I was a kid, to prevent kids from sneaking their friends in. Seems even more appropriate now.

I wonder what would happen if everyone had guns...
