The claim that the rich don't pay enough taxes is based on perception, not fact

After reading your article, I agree with what you are saying. The rich are paying their fair share of taxes although sometimes it may not seem like it. The graphs helped to explain the article further and helped me to understand. People in the top 50% do pay more than the bottom 50%. Your comment about perception was also very interesting. It may not seem as if the rich are paying fair taxes, but when one sees the numbers, they end up realizing that they do, after all.

I agree with what you're saying. Before I read your article, I thought that the rich barely paid anything. But in reality they pay a lot! Much of the protests is based on people's own opinion and perception rather than hard facts.

Ive read all of the debaters on this topic and yours is the one i agree most. The facts you show in paragraph two show that not only the rich, but the top half pay way more than theyre fair share in taxes. Your opinion is spot on and i couldnt agree more.

I agree on the most part I think that the "rich" are paying their fair share most of the time but some rich people have been avoiding taxes and they can get away with it. I think that this is fair because if you make a lot of money you can afford to pay a lot too. While some poor peopole can't afford to do so. I also agree that some poor people have been getting out of taxes unfairly and fairly.

Personally I think that if it was set to a certain percentage of income, would be fine. If taxes were set to a basic 10% for middle and upper class, everyone would be happy, because no one's paying too much or too little.

I wholeheartedly agree with your views. Your claim that the rich might be paying too much has evidence and is well supported.

I believe that everyone should pay the same percentage on taxes. Making everyone's income the same through taxes is creating a communist country. That's what we are, and always were, against. I'm not sure about obama though.

J Burger - I am looking at both taxes paid & income reported. Please read the full commentary & see both charts which show share of taxes paid & share of income.

Why are you only using taxes paid and not comparing Income or better yet revenue. A great job of using statistics to misrepresent the facts.

Kelly Phillips, I believe the numbers in this article and the related graphs are after deductions and exemptions. Your argument doesn't hold water. Dan Berger, your contention that the tax code is skewed in the rich's favor, after reading the article, defies logic. Tamara Draut, the steep decline in revenue was due to a drastically reduced economy because of the government regulator caused mortgage debacle.
