Mitt Romney will gain conservative support once alternatives drop out of the race

Dr. Crockett is likely correct. The Republicans' profound disdain for President Obama will supplant any internal conflict....

With that being said, it is unlikely that any in GOP field will defeat President Obama...

The fact is that the field is incredibly feeble....

I agree with Dr. Crockett. It is intriguing to see how little the media places historical context and analysis to the Michigan Primary. Yet the desire for profit-oriented based media to create a narrative which promotes a theme of a “raging conflict” within side the Republican Party which will surely spell doom for the eventual nominees chances in November is understandable. The “ Horserace Effect” to sustain large viewership has always proven a useful model for ratings and by extension a revenue builder for the media. But what I think is an underlying narrative that could be discussed in republican circles is how Michigan could be in play in the general election. In 2008 Mitt Romney garnered the number 1 spot with a vote tally of 338316 among 10 candidates with a total of 868,482 votes. This year with only four candidates he garnered 409,899 out of four candidates with 997,000 votes. Less candidates, more votes cast than in the last primary, and Romney garnered 80,000 this cycle than in the last. This should concern Democrats not to take Michigan for granted, which Obama appears not to be doing with his visit last week.
