'Stand Your Ground' Laws Protect the Innocent

Bad people are armed and stand their ground, and good people must be able to do so as well

Back to argument

There are also many bad people who are not armed. The difference is whether you are able to defend yourself safely from them. Often your demographics will rule this. The goal is to not die or let your family die.

'Stand your ground' means every crime deserves the death penalty.

Zimmerman was doing what he thought was right by following a suspicious acting person - walking slowly in the rain and stopping to look into people's windows is NOT the actions of an innocent person.

When the 911 operator told him to leave it to the police, you have to wonder if they would have felt ANY guilt had Trevon broken into a house and raped/killed someone. Probably not.

And for people like Reporter122 who "...I hope something something happens to you or someone in your family... " I say this... I hope next time it happens to YOU that you can watch your family being raped or murdered while you hide in a bathroom and piss yourself hoping the police will eventually arrive to place a nice chalk outline around the people you profess to love.

I would much rather have a neighbor like Zimmerman to help protect my family when I was gone than a sea of liberal idiots that would gladly let my family be killed and simply turn the volume up on their dancing with the starts episode.

Here is a situation where someone broke into a home and attacked the occupants and was killed. An American soldier who served his country still sits nearly a year later, waiting for a fair trial.

Please read, sign and pass on.

Thanks

For a State Representative to say what you said makes me glad I dont live in your district. "Stand Your Ground" is perfectly fine for protecting yourself and your family if someone comes into your home and tries to rob you, it doesnt give you the right to walk around with a gun and pick fights with anyone because you can shoot them if you are loosing the fight. Zimmerman was patrolling the neighborhood, and was told to NOT FOLLOW MARTIN, that THE POLICE DID NOT NEED ZIMMERMAN TO FOLLOW HIM ON FOOT, REPORTING THE "SUSPICIOUS TEENAGER" IS ENOUGH, LET THE POLICE DO THEIR JOB. And you dont think stand your ground and neighborhood watch laws should be more specific, like DO NOT FOLLOW AND CONFRONT THE SUSPICIOUS PERSON, JUST REPORT IT. Again, if we had State Reps like you deciding on laws, I am glad I am not in your district, but oh wait we do have plenty of State Reps that vote on such laws, I hope something something happens to you or someone in your family, maybe you will change your mind about Zimmerman not stepping down and letting police take care of it.

So who (and how) decides who the good guy is and who the bad guy is...I guess Trayvon should have been carrying too and stood his ground...oh, wait, he was probably too young to legally carry!

Let us look at this from a Civil Law point of view, which is by far the dominant view in Western Civilization since Rome, 450 B.C. A person is liable for his wrongful acts. For liability to attach, a person must be shown to have caused the harm complained of. Martin battered a fellow citizen, enough to render himself liable under ancient and current law. So now we move to causation: but for Martin’s actions, he would not have died. (Actually, his parents are also liable under Civilian law.) Now what should we make of Zimmerman’s behavior? A common law jury will decide his fate if the judge does not use a Civil Law to throw out the charges based on the insufficient evidence of causation.
