Washington Whispers by Paul Bedard

Conservatives: Bush Isn't One of Us

By Paul Bedard, Washington Whispers

It's been shrugged off by Bushies as a juvenile kiss-and-tell book, but conservatives are fast embracing Speech-less, from former George W. Bush speechwriter Matt Latimer, as proof that the big-spending ex-prez was never one of them. "My book seems to have resonated with a number of prominent conservatives for that very reason," Latimer tells Whispers. "Many conservatives, in fact, are telling me that they didn't think Bush was as true a conservative as first appeared. And the small number of Bush officials criticizing my book really don't like the fact that I expose their role in this and how they left the Republican Party in tatters. It's finally time for conservatives to appreciate those things the administration did well, while also acknowledging disappointments so that conservatives can move forward to 2012 on principles they hope to champion." For conservatives like Human Events Editor Jed Babbin, the goal is to promote the book to prove that "Bushism" isn't conservatism.

True fiscal conservatives don't waste tax revenue

The word "conservative" means to "save." It means being extremely thrifty with how Congress uses taxes. It means "keeping historic documents the way they were composed, not letting them be changed." Bush was "The Decider." He decided to go after Iraqi oil. He began the war. HE lied to Congress so they gave him BILLIONS of tax dollars to pay contractors who cheated us. His Prolife activity wasted more billions as he enforced church law against abortion. If he stood on the steps of the National Cathedral, holding a big sign saying how much tax money he wasted to destroy the Constitution, he would be seen to be an "anarchist," trying to cancel our founding document. Reagan was a fake conservative. He wasted taxes as a Prolifer. As a regent, Gov. Reagan began tuition on landgrant colleges for the first time. The colleges were built & staffed at tax cost, but he let his banker friends profit from them. He did not conserve those state assets. He was a fake WASP. He said the pope guided his presidency. Some people register & vote based on labels. If you are a fiscal conservative, be sure you know facts about candidates and platforms.

Leave Bush holding the bag.

What do conservatives owe Bush? He's a spent force. Expend no more resources protecting his legacy. Might clear the air if

one or two or twenty of his top advisors joined him in incarceration for a while. Face up to this torture business, blame it all on Bush and for the sake of survival, move on. Catharsis works.

Bush no different than Reagan

Reagan gave amnesty to illegals and spent like a sailor in a whore house. Remember? He showed us "deficits don't matter"? Now they want to pretend those things aren't "conservative". Repubs just are lying their way back to power so they can finish destroying the US.
