Steny Hoyer's Inspiration From John F. Kennedy
By Nikki Schwab, Washington Whispers
It's easy for Steny Hoyer to inspire young people. He just talks about college. "First semester I got a 1.7," the House majority leader tells young people attending the 80 Million Strong summit in Washington recently. "I thought, 'That's not too bad,' so I rested." He got a 1.0 grade-point average and dropped out for a semester. After he returned, a speaker was coming to campus, but Hoyer wasn't sold on listening until he saw the speaker's car: a 1958 Pontiac. How cool, he thought. "That individual, as you probably guessed, was John Fitzgerald Kennedy," says Hoyer, who decided that day to go into public service. "So you don't think I'm a real dummy, I graduated high honors that semester with a 3.8," the Marylander says. "In school, I found out that opening the book made a big difference when you took the test."

Hoyer and his bible JFK's Profile in Courage II
Well, Robert, I voted FOR Obama because I wanted someone in government to represent me and what I wanted. Obviously, you want what Palin and McCain advocated, but you, and they, lost the election. More citizen voters favored Obama - I know it's difficult for you to accept, but that is the reality. You don't get a do-over because you didn't get your way, just as I didn't get a do-over because I didn't get my way in 2000 or 2004.
Hoyer and his bible JFK's Profiles in Courage
In JFK's "Profiles in Courage", he stated that a representative should do what he thought was the correct thing to do, even if his constituents didn't want that. Our new leaders seem to be following "Profiles in Courage", to the letter of intent. Isn't that great, We elect representatives to represent us and they turn around representing what we don't want. To that extent Hoyer, Pelosi and Obama are fans of "Profiles in Courage" where JFK says you have to have courage to go against your constituency. Aren't you all happy that you voted for the Obama team; I didn't vote for Obama because I wanted someone in government to represent me and what I wanted.
