Washington Whispers by Paul Bedard

Obama is Feeling Better, Thanks to Sotomayor and Healthcare Advances

Pollster John Zogby regularly updates our Obamameter. Each week, Zogby uses his polling, expert analysis and interaction with major players to come up with a rating of between 1 and 100. The Obamameter, however, is not a polling-based job approval number. Instead, the Washington Whispers Obamameter is his judgment on the performance of the president once multiple factors are considered.

"Obama looked good this week compared to Republican leading lights Gov. Sarah Palin, Sen. John Ensign, and Gov. Mark Sanford. Obama will get his Supreme Court nominee, and that will make history. In a worst case scenario, it looks like he'll get at least a partisan healthcare reform, as both the House and Senate are progressing with legislation. Not too shabby. Face it: Both of those are enough to be entered into a seventh-grade social studies text book, or to get a plaque in Cooperstown's Hall of Fame.

This week: Up to 81.

Last week's rating: 73
