PS: It works for me!
Sweet Enterprise
Past presidential households have lavished taxpayers' money on luxurious carpets, expensive crockery, extensive renovations and self-serving recreational facilities. It is good to see the Obamas put our money to good use on producing honey, organic food and other such productive enterprises. To Charlie Brandts and the other White House staffers who contribute their time and effort, kudos and blessings!
Free time is free
From articles I've read about Mr. Brandts in my bee magazines, he does the bee set up and care off the clock, so totally on his own time.
Considering the serious problems we are in because of a loss of honey bees in this country, I think spending money on bees is well worth the expense. While it isn't cheap to set up a new hive, the approx. $300 or less is taxpayer money I'm happy to contribute. Let's just say mine paid for the bees and yours paid for something else, okay?
Sounds Like Jack Needs Some Sweetening
Jack - hope you're not a big a grump as you sound like.
I suppose Michelle could have spent more time selecting a $180k carpet (last president), or redecorating the place (Kennedy), installing a bowling alley (Nixon), or having knick knack collections that took hours to dust round (Reagan).
They all spend money. At least this is for something that actually creates something positive.
Big deal.
I wish I could become more 'self sufficient' by hiring someone to take care of a beehive for me. I'm guessing this honey is costing the taxpayers more per oz. than what I'd pay at my local grocery store. If only we all had carpenters who had enough free time to do our gardening for us.
