all good things

Dropping the dealers is Good Business

Dealerships have manipulated state laws for decades to favor them at the expense of manufacturers and the consumer.

It is contrary to any business model to keep all the dealerships. GM and Chrysler have been in bankruptcy - just as the Right proclaimed they ought. During bankruptcy dealer agreements can be dissolved as part of the bankruptcy. These companies do not need so many dealers. The dealerships are selling 1/3 as many cares as in the 1990's, so why would the manufacturers have more dealers? These unrequited dealers just expect GM and Chrysler to keep ladling money to them.

It is ridiculous to expect them to support a bloated dealer network. I would rather buy my car online than deal with most of the car salesmen out there. Over the years they have demonstrated their underhanded tactics, and have gotten away with many things based otheir local pull with paid off politicians.

Congress would once again show it is bought off by local money that wants nothing that is good for the USA - just good for their own pockets - AT MY EXPENSE. I now own part of GM and Chrysler, so I want them to be SUCCESSFUL. That does not mean keeping huge overhead to support a bunch of dealerships that spend most of their days attaching balloons to antennae.

America - you are always so cold when it comes to cutting other people's jobs - I heard nothing but talk about how the unions were aweful, so let GM and Chrysler go down. Now that the dealers are screaming - suddenly GM and Chrysler are supposed to cover them? What happened to letting them fall? If GM and Chrysler fall, don't ALL the dealers too? Is it better to have them all fall, instead of just half of them?

The logic is missing, the payoffs to politicians will be totally obvious if this legislation passes.

Disgusting politicians - only thinking about getting re-elected instead of what's best for the nation. Both sides of the aisle too - Democrats are just a s bad as the sleezy Republicans on this.

Anyone who votes to allow dealers to sue the manufacturers just out of bankruptcy loses my vote - and all the rest of us who have invested in these companies. Shame on all of you for even considering it. I vote Libertarain next time.

the problem

Who’s at fault for the American automobile industry collapsing to the point it needs to turn to the government for help! Well if you really look at the problem everyone is. The government is for allowing so many imports vehicles in to our country, with out considering the out come of what will happen to the American cars. The public for forgetting where they live, work, and play freely (in America), the automobile manufacture for not thinking about the American public. When they were building vehicles like they were toy model cars. Now we have a president that says he will save jobs and get the economy going to put people back to work. But the government forces the American manufactures to close car dealerships, down size the plants. Putting serve hundreds of thousands of people out of work that have survived off, The American automobile business. What did they do for the import vehicles sold in this country? They are forcing American car dealers to open more import dealerships. Pushing the American plant worker to find work for the import manufacture in this country. How does this help the American automobile business in this country? Where we employ and keep the tax payers money in this country. Instead of shipping it to Japan or Korea. The government took the American publics tax dollars to help out the American built vehicle companies, on the same hand forced Americans to help build sell and open more import dealerships in this country off our tax dollars. How have we helped the American economy by allowing the government to do this????? The government, the public, the manufacture needs to think about this country America and stop thinking about greed. Every import vehicle sold; bought and built in this country will keep bring down the American automobile industry. Which we all know that the down turn of the automobile industry affects the American economy.

Chrysler Dealer Closings.

All I know is Im watching tv one day and Obama is saying he is going to get involved. I thought great !

I have been a mechanic with chrysler for 20 years and the last 5 with Daihmler have been less than stellar (a German company).

Next thing I know I have 3 weeks to pack my stuff.

WHAT!!!!! Must be a mistake.

Many dealers had already closed. We were one of the survivors.

You can say whatever mumbo jumbo you want but my dealer was still surviving even during the biggest depression since the great depression.

They took the signs down yesterday and now the street looks like downtown Detroit. Good job Obama. Put the guys who were in control of the mortgage mess in charge of another industry.

And for the chrysler execs I cannot believe you guys are blaming the dealers for this mess.

$2.99 gas guarantee is the best advertising campaign you could come up with ? If that dosn't scream our cars get poor gas mileage I don't know what does.

See you on the unemployment line.

Join Us

Join us in the unemployment line. It's fun and you'll all love it. Maybe you might even encourage congressional support for a public health option. It's amazing what a little humility can do.

Congress should not have anything to do with whether or not dealerships stay open.

Sorry if I sound a little cynical. I'm just tired of the whining.

Baseball and Automobiles, American as Apple Pie?

Dear Senator: __________________________________________

Why we are as taxpayers concerned with your upcoming vote which could be taking place as soon as July 15th 2009 on bill “S. 1304 Automobile Dealer Economic Rights Restoration Act of 2009”. Please vote “Yes” on S.1304

Here is what I cannot figure out! GM and Chrysler were each recently allowed to file Bankruptcy federally and bypass all state franchise laws put into place by each state’s elected officials by its constituents (We as tax payers). How is this possible? My employer is not looking for a bailout, “Just let the free market take its course.” Fritz Henderson CEO of GM stated at the Congressional hearing on June 12th that at the rate of 80 GM dealership per month closing due to attrition, we would have arrived at approx. the same number of dealerships they are closing. But GM Executives would not get to choose their so-called “winners and losers”. Are you aware that there are publicized documented emails discussing the fate of a RI dealership stating that his was a tough one because he is a good dealer, and response was He is belligerent and litigious, he has to go! Hence, a personality conflict stripped him of his entire lifetime investment, his personal property, and over 100 good innocent employees’ jobs in RI where unemployment is already a grave issue.

The public figures such as you need to recognize the following facts:

• Thousands of Dealerships are being closed, majority of them very successful & financially sound

• 169,000 employees are being told they will be joining the ranks of people in unemployment

• Thousands of unknown workers related to transportation, wholesale parts, etc also lose jobs

• Millions if not Billions of Federal and State Income taxes both corporate & employee related will no longer be collect annually / quarterly, who or what is going to replaced that in the near future?

• Local property taxes paid by your city or town’s GM or Chrysler Dealer will no longer be collected

• Excise tax on dealer’s inventory for the same city or town end, meaning your taxes go up!!

• Monies spent at local retail, restaurant establishments by employees of dealer dry up overnight

• Donations to local causes like children sports, cancer, ms, etc go away when good dealers close

Here is some insight into my state of mind. As an Employee I’m HURT, as my family’s Income Provider I’m SCARED, as a Taxpayer, I’m MAD, as a Citizen of the United States of America, I’m APPALLED at the plain arrogant not legitimate reasons that the US Auto Taskforce, GM and Chrysler Management and the US Bankruptcy Court in NY used when selecting which dealers should be closed. Their ability to make the rules up as they go, lie under oath to congress as to the reasons a particular dealer was chosen or was selected to be closed. Here is your chance to right a wrong. Please Vote Yes on S.1304 !

Dealership employees

I am a GM Comptroller and have worked between two Chevrolet dealerships in that time span. They are estimating 169,000 dealership employees will be jobless with almost nowhere to go. I personally have been making phone calls to dealership colleagues in support of HR 2743, the bill to restore dealers rights. Many of these kind-hearted dealers who have lost their entire lifelong investment overnight are more concerned about their employees than themselves and that is why they are fighting this fight. I spoke with one dealer who had already placed 70% of his dealer body through networking.

This is a travesty to America and a demise to the free enterprise system as we know it..This is so much larger that Auto Dealerships. If Dunkin Donuts decided there were too many Dunkie's and started closing privately owned franchises, the country would be up in arms about it. For 30 years I have defended my position as a "person who sells cars". I am an automotive accountant by trade and love what I do. When I tell you there is not much profit in the sale of the new vehicle, I am not lying. The manufacturers over the years have shrunk our margins of profits to almost nothing while costs of doing business have continued to rise and we look to the fixed operations of the business for profit centers, (service, parts, and body shops). When the dealers met with the Congressional Committee on June 12th, one of their main concerns was the GM or Chrysler certified technician. That was addressed by Fritz Henderson, CEO of GM who in a nut shell offered to provide the techs with their training records and certification to present with their resumes down the road. All of which is already accessible to them through the GM Website called Global Connect. I believe the US Congressional Leaders who have spoken with their dealers in their own districts personally, who have done their research, and who have listened to the repeated contradictions from manufacturers, "Dealers costs us money, Dealers don't actually cost us money..and it goes on and on.." and who know this is bigger than the Auto Industry, are endorsing this Bill whole-heartedly. Over a trillion dollars of tax payers money are being spent without a congressional vote. Hats off to all you Senators and Congressmen and women who continue to care for us..or shall I say.."We, the People"

Thank you for listening to an innocent but victimized dealership employee.

If we taxpayer/owners don't want you franchisees

Just become independent dealers. We will still appreciate all sales of made in America vehicles.

dealers

Millions of good American jobs have been deliberately sent overseas, and Congress didn't just sit on their hands, they gave tax breaks to the big shots that eviscerated the American working class.

Now, a few hundred auto dealership owners get their franchises pulled, and it's a big freakin' deal.

The hearings that have been held by Congress have everything to do with the dealer principals and nothing to do with the technicians, payables clerks, and salespeople that are losing their jobs. Most of the dealer principals I've known over the years are good, decent, hardworking people. I just wish the average American worker had the same sort of access to Congressional concern.
