What's In A Label? Apparently, Not Very Much

I just read an article via an online green-themed social network (www.greenwala.com) that questions the legitimacy of the organic foods that we've all been paying top dollar for. Here's the link -- http://www.greenwala.com/community/blogs/all/1237-Organic-Labeling-Are-We-Paying-A-LOT-MORE-For-A-Lot-Less After digesting all of the facts presented, it's hard to deny that the USDA is failing to do its job -- in fact, we are completely naive to trust in them considering their all too lax standards. Couple that with the ridiculous amount of food recalls that we've been having and it's surprising that all of us don't boycott the commercial food industry entirely and make everything ourselves.

Michelle Obama's First Harvest Gets an A Plus

As a Green REALTOR or EcoBroker and an avid organic gardener and proponent of Eat Local, Buy Organic, I am happy that the Obama Administration is re-greening the Whitehouse- including Michelle and the Whitehouse garden. I heard about the garden sometime back and am glad to see this update that it has been so successful. I am very pleased! I will blog about this at www.TexasOrganicHome.com

Growing a Garden to Promote Healthy Eating

Michelle Obama is creating a role model for parents and children to grow a garden and eat healthy food. This is an important step in the right direction for the health of our nation. We can all learn more about growing food, after all, we all eat food and all of our food started out as a plant.

The White House Garden is inspiring our family to spend more time gardening together and to plant new varieties of vegetables. Our family enjoys spending time building raised beds and bringing in more compost to add to the soil. It is amazing to see how quickly a little seed grows into a huge plant that soon produces food.

I found seeds kits that got our garden started at www.ediblegardens.com. They have a website that has educational videos at www.onemilliongardens.com also. Happy Gardening everyone!

First Harvest for Mrs. Obama

YEAH !!!!!!!!! THIS IS GREAT. I AM ALL FOR ORGANIC AND HEALTHY EATING, BEING A VEGETARIAN HAS MADE ME FEEL LIGHTER AND HEALTHIER. I HOPE MORE PEOPLE WILL LEARN ABOUT ORGANIC PRDUCTS AND COOKING AND WILL TEACH THAT TO THEIR CHILDREN. GROWING UP ITALIAN I ALWAYS HAD FRESH FROM THE GARDEN. IT TASTES SO MUCH BETTER AND THE QUALITY OF THE COOKING WAS THE PROOF.

regarding the criticism of the cartoon

It is caricature. Don't be so silly. Haven't you a real cause to protest? Some maturity is in order.

"It is an exaggeration of her african featurers."

Duh!, Isn't that what a caricature is supposed to do?

As for the "not happy part" try a change of attitude.

Michele Obama Cartoon

Personally I think the art is extraordinary and is consistent with the way cartoons are drawn to represent black, brown, beige, white, orange, yellow, and even green people. To the person who left the comment, give it up,get down off your high horse.

I'm not happy with the cartoon you published on this article about Michele Obama. It is an exaggeration of her african featurers. Please remove it or else I will target your advertisers.

Organic gardening

As a mother, grandmother, and nurse I find the concept of organic gardening to be one of great common sense. Really, who in their right mind would rather choose to eat, or feed to their family, vegetables grown with potentially toxic chemical fertilizers and insecticides when there is a highly viable, earth friendly and sustainable method available.

Myself, I'm not much of a vegetable gardener. Thus, as a consumer/shopper I must purchase my vegetables at a supermarket or local farmer's market. In the supermarket, I do look for the organically grown veggies and in the summer and fall I do most of my purchasing at my local Farmer's Market. I'm all for doing my best to support my community's local businesses and entrepreneurs.

Regardless of the motivation behind the First Lady's organic vegetable garden, the garden is a great idea and I think Mrs. Obama is setting a good example for us all.

GOP GROUCHES???

I DON'T THINK GROUCHES SHOULD BE THE WORDS USED. HOW ABOUT

CAUTIOUS ABOUT WHAT THE PRESIDENT IS PROPOSING. HAS ANYONE

IN THE MEDIA REALLY TRIED TO EXPLAIN FULLY THE COSTS OF THE GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS PUT IN PLACE AND PROPOSED???

CAN THE PUBLIC PLEASE HAVE THE MEDIA DO A STUDY OF ACTUAL COSTS TO THE TAXPAYER FOR THESE PROGRAMS.

WE HAVE NOT BEEN ALLOWED TO DIGEST ONE PROGRAM, WHEN THE PRESIDENT IS PROPOSING ANOTHER, ANOTHER, ETC.

STOP SPENDING UNTIL WE SEE WHERE THIS IS ALL GOING, INSTEAD OF PILING ON THE DEPT!!!

THE PRESIDENT IS REALLY PUSHING THESE PROGRAMS AND SATISFYING HIS POLITICAL SUPPORTERS WITH DISREGARD FOR THE "GROUCHES" THAT IS 47% OF THE PEOPLE WHO DID NOT VOTE FOR HIS PROGRAMS.

ARE THEY NOT AMERICAN TAXPAYERS ALSO WHO DESERVE SOME EXPLANATION

OF WHERE THEIR MONIES WILL BE SPENT. DO WE NEED ALL THESE PROGRAMS??

IF 47MILLION PEOPLE ARE UNINSURED, WHY NOT GIVE THEM VOUCHERS FOR INSURANCE PROGRAMS. WHY PUSH THIS GOVENMENT BACKED MEDICAL PROGRAM ON THE REST OF THE POPULATION??? IT WOULD BE LESS COSTLY

AND MORE EFFECTIVE TO PAY FOR "47 MILLION." BY THE WAY SUPPOSEDLY THERE ARE 12 MILLION ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS IN THE 47 MILLION. IF THIS IS NOT TRUE, AGAIN WHY DOESN'T THE MEDIA GIVE THE CORRECT INFORMATION AND NOT JUST OK EVERYTHING THROWN AT THEM BY BARACK OBAMA.
