Imagine seeing your congressman or senator flipping burgers at McDonald's or selling T-shirts at the Gap. Well, according to our latest Synovate eNation poll, Americans think a summer job would help lawmakers keep in touch with how the rest of us live.

The Whispers Poll

President Obama had a taste of the real life working as an ice cream scooper as a teenager. Which summer job would keep your member of Congress more in touch with voters?

Flipping burgers 45%
Mowing lawns 31%
Selling T-shirts at the mall 16%
Life guarding at the pool 8%

Source: The Synovate eNation Internet poll was conducted May 28-June 1 among 1,000 nationally representative households by global market research firm Synovate.
