Rep. Aaron Schock: Young But Serious

Congressman Aaron Schock turned 28 last week, but the youngest member of Congress still finds himself catching flak for looking too young but acting too old. Case in point: When the freshman representative first arrived on Capitol Hill in January, he was occasionally called out by security for filing into the Capitol Building with his House colleagues. "It wasn't in a mean way. They were just trying to keep everyone safe, and they thought I didn't belong in the members' line," says Schock, who has looks reminiscent of TV's Doogie Howser.

He takes his job seriously, but he's not too far out of touch with young people. He likes being around his own in an environment more known for cigar-smoking gray hairs. He made his recent fundraiser birthday party affordable to Hill staffers to attract the young breed. And he even had bartenders come up with a fun drink, the Schock-a-tini, made with rum, vodka, tequila, and pineapple, for the event. "My goal was to get more young people because it was for my birthday and I thought if I'm going to have a birthday party I want to people who look more like me," he says.
