Whispers Poll: Americans Want to Visit Cuba
By Paul Bedard and Nikki Schwab, Washington Whispers
President Obama may have been on to something last month when he relaxed travel restrictions for Cuban-Americans who want to visit relatives on the island nation. In our newest Synovate eNation Internet Poll, we asked you which shunned country you'd most like to visit, and Cuba won big. Burma was the second-most-popular vacation spot but with only 20 percent wanting to visit the Southeast Asian nation. North Korea, Iran, and Somalia weren't appealing for many of you. Apparently, real pirates aren't good for attracting tourists.
The Whispers Poll
It appears that the Obama administration is edging toward letting Americans travel to Cuba. Which of the following shunned nations would you like to visit first?
| Cuba | 61% |
|---|---|
| Burma | 20% |
| North Korea | 9% |
| Somalia | 5% |
| Iran | 5% |
Source: The Synovate eNation Internet poll was conducted May 15–19 among 1,000 nationally representative households by global market research firm Synovate.

I would go to Cuba
Why not travel to Cuba? It is close and would be an excellent weekend trip. I am looking forward to the US removing the travel restrictions.
Americans Want to Visit Cuba
Surely mant Americans would visit Cuba if legally allowed to do so. The climate, friendly locals, rum, and cigars would be irrestible to many tourists. If the U.S. government were to suddenly say Cuba was open to all American tourists the Cuban government would act swiftly - to close their country to U.S. tourists! Cuban officials do not want American tourists and prosperous second-generation cuban-americans flooding into their country and showing the Cuban people what a lousy job the Castro regime has done in running their country. Face it, with all its natural resources and climate Cuba should be a prosperous, jewel-like country. Not some third world, back-water ghetto.
Possibly retire there
I want to visit Cuba as a possible place to retire. I understand the people are very friendly, the beaches are gorgeous, violent crime is virtually non-existant, medical care is excellent and one can actually live decently on social security. It all sounds great to me.
