Thomas Jefferson's Monticello in Michelle Obama's Garden
By Nikki Schwab, Washington Whispers
It's brand new, but already the Obama vegetable garden has historical overtones. That's because some of the heirloom veggies come from the same types of seeds sown by slaves at former President Thomas Jefferson's Monticello in Virginia. Among them are brown Dutch and tennis ball lettuces, Savoy cabbage, and prickly seed spinach. "They were Jefferson's favorites," says Peter Hatch, director of gardens and grounds at Monticello. "There's this really profound Jefferson legacy for not only gardening but also the promotion of local food and New Age cuisine in the president's house," Hatch says.

New White House Garden & Obama's impact on the nation.
It gives me genuine pleasure and excitement to think of the impact on our country if only 10% of our country would commit to a program of positive change in our diet and reduce significantly the kinds of low nutritional food as well as high fat and high salt and sugar content foods that are currently a huge part of our national menu.
I also here would like to state that if President Obama hasn't completely licked the "closet Smoking" problem, I strongly encourage him to do so ASAP, and if he either has done so or does accomplish this personal goal, to "go public" and use his example to encourage others to do the same. In so doing, he can influence untold thousands and thus contribute significantly to the health and welfare of America, as well as help reduce the exorbitant health care costs we face, at the national and the personal level. MORE POWER TO THE FIRST FAMILY AS THEY SEEK TO LEAD BY EXAMPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!(608)742-7504
Would we expect Michelle
who is a deep thinker in her own right, to not put some history spin on everything she touches?
