Autoworkers Union Backs Cash For Clunkers
By Paul Bedard, Washington Whispers
Congress, President Obama, and now the UAW are backing legislation to give Americans cash to turn their old clunkers in for new Made in America cars. "Properly constructed, this type of program could stimulate auto sales and boost production and jobs for American workers, while also helping to reduce oil consumption and greenhouse gas," Alan Reuther, the autoworkers union's legislative director, said in a letter to Congress. A copy was provided to Whispers. In backing the Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save Act, or CARS, Reuther was opposing a similar bill that opens up the type of cars people can trade for to more foreign imports. That bill—Accelerated Retirement of Inefficient Vehicles Act—"would use taxpayers' dollars to subsidize foreign auto production, while undermining the jobs of American workers," he said.

global warming
I agree with the last commentator. But the people who dispute global warming make me sick. Even if you don't believe it exists (?????), there are so many other reasons to stop using fossil fuels, many of which are in the above commentary. The other thing, not mentioned above, is that the air we breathe is full of the harmful effects of fossil fuels. That can't be good, and it isn't! Even if you poo-poo the studies that show that people who live in high-trafficked areas are subject to more lung problems than others, just think about it rationally and come to a rational conclusion. It can't be good!!!!
BTW, I also have a car that is good on mileage but burns oil, and I don't think that that car would be qualify for this program. Duh!!!!! Makes no sense.
clunkers
