Washington Whispers by Paul Bedard

Did Saddam Hussein Bug Dan Rather Before the Iraq War?

By Paul Bedard, Washington Whispers

It was probably the most important interview before the Iraq war: Dan Rather vs. Saddam Hussein. But we learn in the new book Hide and Seek: The Search for Truth in Iraq by Charles Duelfer, longtime United Nations and CIA weapons inspector, that Saddam likely got a peek at Rather's questions. Duelfer, whose book tells of screw-ups and missed opportunities by the Clinton and Bush administrations in dealing with Saddam, suggests the former CBS News anchor underestimated his target. Rather told reporters that his preinvasion quiz was so important that he practiced his questions before a mirror in his Rasheed Hotel room. But Duelfer notes that Saddam had the city so heavily wired for surveillance that his posse probably heard every question. "It is simply surprising," Duelfer tells Whispers, "that someone as worldly as Dan Rather would not assume his room was bugged in one of the most security-conscious regimes on the planet."

Dreamers are dangerous

"Dan Rather an idiot? He cries all the way to the bank. Obama is NOT an empty suit with a good speaking voice as the man from Texas implied..."

Dan Rather was a warning of what was to come after Obama was deified by the media. Total disregard for objective reporting. Only this time the media barons let their minions run with the propaganda.

I could not agree more with David Bronx of New York. Obama is not an empty suit. He is someone who has been inculcated from birth with anti-American views. He was the left most Senator in the Senate, and, in his short time as president he has aken us down a radical path hat will leave us vulnerable.

Dan Rather an idiot? He cries all the way to the bank. Obama is NOT an empty suit with a good speaking voice as the man from Texas implied (I'm sure you meant the previous dumb bunny President from Texas via Connecticut). Bush was the one without a brain, he let Cheney run the country and could barely express himself without a cue card and even then he sounded uneducated.

re: just because

Just because you cannot speak well in public doesn't mean you're not smarter than a lot of people that can. Bush outsmarted every talky democrat that he came up against. That would be because they are doing what they do best, talking out their a$$es.

Bobbles Poll: Vice President Hillary?

Biden, Clinton, Richardson and Edwards Bobbleheads, for Washington Whispers

A new Obama campaign book suggests that Hillary Clinton was almost picked by Barack Obama as his vice president. Would you have picked Joe Biden as vice president or one of the other 2008 Democratic primary candidates?
