Gov. Hunt Suggests Colin Powell for Education Secretary
He's listed as a top choice for the next education secretary on the transition flowchart given to Whispers, but former North Carolina Gov. James Hunt is a big fan of the man listed as the No. 1 choice—Colin Powell. "He would be wonderful," Hunt gushes. "Colin Powell is one of the most highly respected and admired men in America." Hunt says he knows personally that the former military man and secretary of state cares deeply about children and would want to do "big and bold things" when it comes to education. "I want to work with anybody who is appointed, but in particular I would want to work with him," Hunt adds. Powell, of course, is on the education short list because of all of his work with kids through his America's Promise Alliance.
Hunt hinted that a governor would do a first-rate job too. "There are a lot of good candidates," he says. As for his own prospects of getting offered the post, he demurred. "I don't want to move to Washington, D.C.," he tells Whispers. He'd much rather help President-elect Barack Obama with education policy from the comforts of his farm in North Carolina. And visit Washington often.

I was aw struck to learn that Colin Powell was a option for education secretary General Powell’s expertise is in military or at least foreign affairs. This is a terrible idea to say the least! Are u sure your sources on this issue are correct? Would it no behoove the US to get away from the bush years and not us political appointments to repay those who support us? I do not see any reason for General Powell to be appointed to this position why not get a former teacher? Or superintendent? In fact main reason our schools are failing is the government doesn’t values schools. What scenario is comparable to the school and the battle field? Education sec should be a major position and those who hold that position should at least if there not going to be qualified should at least have worked in a school this miss charge of justice is sickening.
When we look back at past administrations of late this appointment hasn’t been viewed with the vital importance that they will have. Were was the outrage at this mockery?? Were Keith Olberman coming on TV and telling people about this? Why has the media given up on there crucial job of actually objectively reporting the news. What happened to the un-opinionated news man of our grandfather’s time who trusted the American public to receive the information and then process it themselves? I ask you this would General Powell be considered for this position if he hadn’t come out for and supported President elect Obama? If his credentials are the legs he’s standing on yes however we all no that he the president elect is simply repaying a dept. When people wake up and realize that are education system has needed a governmental bail out for the past 30 years it will already be to late. Who no’s what the effect the failed educations system in this country will have no country has managed to keep there dynasty going without educating and preparing there youth adequately to take over from the forbearers.
However now the baton will be passed to a generation who won’t even no what to do with it. The failures of the last 8 years and the failing of are schools go hand in hand however it’s been years and years of inaction going back to Reagan that has landed us in this educational depression. The swiftness that the law makers acted to help out there buddies in there bank was disgraceful imagine what would have happened if the government had acted with such swiftness to heal are schools Americans should be outraged when they tell us there’s no money for school yet they can rally up billions and give a blank check to there buddies.
Powell For Education Secretary
I think Colin Powell would be a wise choice. Perhaps he would remove the needless bureaucratic burdens that math and science teacher applicants face in the form of paperwork and test scores and apply common sense in hiring.
Today, we lose good teachers with a wealth of skill and knowledge just for missing a state cutoff score by a few points on an unrelated, university-sponsored, esoteric exam. Those real educators should be in the classroom helping our nation's children learn.
Then there would be fewer university students requiring remedial mathematics.

It is obvious that Powell is a Great Candidate to be the Education Secretary. He has been a leader in some of America's War's and is a Wonderful caring person to all people in the world. I am very happy to hear he will be Serving Our Country again!
