Washington Whispers by Paul Bedard

Obama's Internal Polls Show Him Cleaning Up Against McCain

October 15, 2008 12:55 PM ET | Paul Bedard | Permanent Link | Print

New voters and those who call themselves independents are moving in a huge wave to Sen. Barack Obama, we hear. Key advisers and aides to Democratic senators who have seen the internal polling data from the Democrat's campaign reveal that new voters are breaking Obama's way. He is receiving 80 percent of the new voters, compared with Sen. John McCain. What's more, we're told, independents are choosing Obama by 2-to-1 to 3-to-1, depending on the region of the country. Sounds good for the Democrat, right? But when those figures and the growing poll gap that favors Obama are added to the mix, it's creating concerns in Obama-land that voters might think he's a shoo-in and not vote. "Their biggest fear is that people figure he's going to win and they don't show up," says a key Democratic Senate associate of Obama.

straight ridiculous

The whole democratic and republican candidates at this point has no real influence on 60% of america but yet still keep hearing it on the media because Bush is a republican and he did a bad Job i dont believe that Bush is a republican he did bad job. His work ethics and seriousness on issues do. He gave promises that he didnt even come close to keeping instead all he did was cause distress and madness for this country. People see macain and see him makin promises but How? everyone knows he only makes the final decision still has to go throu house of reps, senate.. i mean be real.. Obama on the other hand is stating facts and is being realistic about issues not because he a democrat but because he is trying to do right for our country. As a young new voter i hope people come to relize the younger generation dont give a heck about democratic or republican party.. Its whose gonna do the best job..

McCain v Obama

Many people do not care about republican vs democrat but they better care about the platforms of those two parties. The basic beliefs are widely different. And please, don't for one minute believe that Obama has any more chance of keeping promises than McCain. Only way that will happen is that both House and Senate have majorities the same party as the president and even then it's hard to get bills approved. Best to vote for the party which or person who espouses what you believe. They are to represent you. And polls are indeed misleading at best. The only valuable poll is the one done in secret. As soon as it's made public, the public changes their mind and that invalidates the poll! Publicity of polls is really being done to promote someone's agenda. So far choice is between a person who wants gays in control (who normally don't produce offspring), who wants to kill unborn or recently born children, then vote for Obama. Otherwise vote for McCain. If you want a president who has no allegience to the US flag, associates with radical ministers, gangsters, terrorists, ACORN heads, vote Obama. Otherwise McCain. If you want a president who is happy to give away your money to win votes (your $--> tax --> govt pgm --> receiver: if this is a circle for you, why pay taxes. if not a circle, why pay taxes. Why should we pay for Obama's goal to tax us?) Otherwise vote McCain. I could go on and on...

Looking for best system

There is certainly no political design in determining who will rule a country, that is perfect. Yes, in the end it boils down to who will do the best job, as Jayson points out, but to create a system that will guarantee that, has kept brilliant minds busy for centuries. I am speaking from South Africa and we will have a general election next year. We have been enjoying the benefits of what is generally known as a democracy since 1994, but in truth it is nothing more than a situation where one party has such an overwhelming majority that one can hardly refer to SA as a multi-party state. However, thanks mainly to a sound Constitution and the willingness of people to regard it with respect, the political landscape is changing and SA can move closer to the position where people who are best suited, will be chosen to govern the country. I am sure that is also what the American people are aiming for in their coming elections in November. Good luck to you.
